964 G50 to '87-'89 nose cone conversion.

I'm trying to update my 911 from the 930 4 speed to a more modern G50, and since I got myself a G50/03 for a very good price I decided to start the conversion, my first step was to get a new '87-'89 nose cone to replace the large 964 one, I thought that would be straigh forward as I have read here in the forum by many guys, I just have to cut the shifter rod to get it shorter and drill and tap the tip for the coupler, well .. not that easy! .. as you can see here there are 3 detent grooves that would interfere with the shifter rod seal, so I have to either replace the whole rod, or do some fab to add some length to the housing to get the seal a bit further back. any of you guys been there before? what was your solution to that?

Buy/procure the correct shift shaft. PN 95030310905

But you'll also need to partially disassemble the trans to get the intermediate case off. You'll need the big nut, small nut and the tools to remove/install them. And the gear puller to remove 5th and reverse gears.

Also, is the bearing for the shift shaft installed in the nose cone? The shaft looks a little off center.

The sleeve bearing is not there and the cover is not fully seated. Thats what I'm going to do, get the correct shift shaft and get into it. I wasn't ready for that since "ALL" the posts talking about that in the forum never mentioned that, they all say that you need to only cut it shorter. Well, here you go, the reality.
