Are Alternator fan shrouds interchangable from year to year?

I am in the middle of some upgrades on my 3.0l sc motor and found some cracks in the alternator fan shroud. I have located a couple but from 2.7 motors...will these work or not?

Thanks
ian

what's the casting number? if the number is the same, they are interchangable, e.g. 0R vs 4R.

I have a carrera one and it's a 4R. It's not the same as an SC 0R and a hell of a lot different than the one from my 901. Also, depending on the year of your SC, the fan blade diameter was different, I think 78-79 were smaller, check Bruce Anderson's book.

keep cool!

Yep, fan size is the biggest differentiating factor.

The other critical dimension is the thickness of the mounting flange for the alternator. How I know this is I attempted to put a Carrera alternator in the 901 shroud, and when you mount the fan, it sticks out about 10mm from the front of the shroud, not good. Ach ja, so I then went to a 0R shroud, and the mounting flange is too thick, the bolts from the Carrera alternator don't stick all the way through. After machining that with a grinder for a couple hours, I threw up my hands and bought the 4R version. . . . just right. These shrouds can be expensive so it's best to buy exactly the right one.
