Bolt-in rollbars for '68 911L?
Any companies out there make them? I've done some searching, and it seems they're all for 69+ LWB 911's.
I ask because I'm looking very seriously at a '68 911L, body in relatively good shape, no structural rust, and a newly rebuilt motor. I can find gobs of information about the LWB cars (ie, what interior parts fit, what performance parts work and don't work, and information about things like seats and rollbars), but very little about the older 911's. The interior needs some work, and definitely needs new seats... Any pointers for good sources of information about those other than these forums is, of course, also appreciated. ![]() Any tips from those on here with pre '69 911's? |

Those cars are usually for the vintage minded, so a roll bar might have to be custom made. But check safety devices and autopower.

The roll bar is a necessity if I go with four-point harnesses in there, which I'm likely to go with if I use something like Sparco seats rather than finding a set of later-model Porsche seats for the car. Ideally I'd love to have a later model 911, but I can't afford $20k for the car, and this appears to be a heck of a deal for a car with a fully rebuilt engine with 200 miles on it... |

Go five point for your harnesses.

We are close to having our early sport purpose bar ready. patterned after the RS/ RSR the factory bars installed in the original RS and RSR. Expect a couple more weeks and we will have our first production piece. Options abound on cross bars, diagonals, etc depending on use
It will require welding on two threaded foot plates on the inner upper rocker panel. The rear legs slip over the back seat hinge pins and bolt into place there Thanks! Dave |

I had an AutoPower bolt-in full cage in my '68 912 vintage racer.

If anything, as far as options are concerned, i don't think that custom roll bars/cages are too much more expensive than these mass produced versions + labor. As long as the welder is good, you shouldn't have any problems. I know custom machinists that specialize in muscle cars that could whip up a quality cage or bar easily.
