Oil cooling plans- questions
In preparation for a 3.6 conversion, I have a plan for oil cooling but need some ideas on the best way to accomplish it. I’m going to leave the front valence alone so I need to install a cooler in the left fender. So far I’m thinking of a Carrera cooler and fabricate brackets to mount it. I’m looking for pics and ideas on how best to do this.
I’m also concerned about the fuel expansion tank that is in the left fender. Do I really need to keep it and if I do where do I put it and how? I’m afraid that it’s an emissions requirement but I can’t remember anyone ever looking for it. Thank for any advice.

The only thing that will interfere w/ an oil cooler in the left front is the water bottle for the windshield washers. It is huge. I would relocate it w/ a smaller one from a 964 Cup car like this.
You will want to open up the air path as much as possible, seal the periphery of the cooler so that all air flow goes thru the cooler and use a fan on the drivers side.

Here's how I did mine in the LF fender

Thanks Bill and Thom.
Bill, I know I have the expansion tank in there too. From what I’ve seen, many guys have pulled it out and just capped it off. I love the washer bottle set up. I was going to just eliminate it but your set up gives me something to think about there. Thom, I forgot that I had checked out your old set up on your site a couple months ago. I’d be very interested in taking everything off your hands. Email me w/ the details and thanks for the offer.

The gas expansion tank shouldn't interfere with an oil cooler.

Can I take the expansion tank out of my 73 and cap it? WOnt that cause a vapor lock potentially or something?
