Found this on a Porsche Option Decoder - I'd guess the 426 means "without rear window wiper" for your model year, and "special edition" just for the years noted? Newbie here, my best guess.
Code Option Description 400 Pressure cast wheels 404 Stabilizer bars 409 Sport seats left and right leather 426 Special model World Champion 1976 1978 426 without rear window wiper 429 Fog headlamp, white 429 Special model "Sebring" 440 Manual antenna, 4 speakers 470 Without spoilers, in conjunction with turbo look 568 Tinted windshield and side glass 568 Tinted windshield, side, and rear glass (heated rear) [1978-1982] 650 Sunroof

Where did you get the option codes that the car is supposed to have come with? Since some of them clearly don't make sense with the information available thus far, you have to question the source.

The translation of these option codes looks like they relate more to a later model 924 than an early 911 ??

Sometimes Porsche reused the option code numbers. They meant one thing at a given point in time and then were used for something else later.

For what it's worth, 426 would have been for chrome trim around the wheel openings. 429 was for rectangular iodine fog lights mounted below the bumper. 568 was tinted glass, all around.

I'm not sure what he meant, but I am curious about your source for the option codes. I posted a link to the "Porsche Option Decoder" but I've seen several versions of the options on sites devoted to various models - none specifically for 72 or that era - just later, and as another poster noted, for 928, or possibly 944, etc.

I generally steer clear of the stuff listed on internet sites, in favor of that found in books, or Porsche's own documentation. I have a fairly huge library of stuff, so there are usually many sources for a given piece of information. This is good, as sometimes the newer books aren't researched very thoroughly and contain endless errors.
In this case, a book I trust (Carrera RS, by Konradsheim) was the closest and easiest source. JR |

![]() A few other "Porsche Option Code" lists I ran across: The Water Cooler (a 944/951/968 site) The Autobahn/flat-6.net decoder Porschemag.com options page Etc....none of these breaks out option codes by their various uses over the years - and none of these is helpful in answering the original question about the use of the OP's codes for his 72 911T.

That's the problem with poorly researched data. The book I used was dedicated to the Carrera RS built in 1973 and the list of options presented in that book are those that were from that era only. They did enough research to ensure that the data they published was accurate. Ultimately, you have to start with original factory documentation. There was a huge amount of it over the years and I've held onto everything I could. I buy more all of the time, as I see it come up for sale.

Resurrecting an old conversation. I just picked up a 72 T, It lists code 16 for black partial leather interior. What should be leather and what bits are vinyl?. It also lists comfort equipment- what does that include? Thank you for your guidance.

Comfort equipment actually refers to the optional gauges and exterior trim included standard in the S model.
As for the seats, my COA mentions Interior, black leatherette/12 which is vinyl with a black Corduroy insert in the seat middle. Yours would have a vinyl interior panels, but the seats are leather with a perforated leather insert. ![]()
