Can this leaking oil cooler be fixed safely and durably
tl;dr: I ended up with this used Setrab oil cooler for a project and it turns out it has a leak from the aluminum mounting fitting which used to hold the cooler down.
Can it be fixed safely and durably? Part of me says "you win some, you lose some" and is inclined to throw it away given the criticality of the oiling system and the blast radius of a catastrophic failure of any component in the system. Part of me says "people fix damaged engine cases, so it's got to be possible to fix a pinhole at the bottom of a brazed-on fitting." The question then becomes who can fix it, is it economical to fix vs. buying a new one for ~$350, and is the fix durable. Much appreciate any ideas. Image below is a still from a video I took with the cooler fittings hooked up to shop air and the cooler submerged in water. The leakage is from the round fitting on the bottom of the cooler. ![]()

Someone with a rig welder can probably fix it. On the other hand, I think I would rather have piece of mind and just buy new.

"Since 1961 Pacific Oil Cooler Service, Inc. has operated as F.A.A. Repair Station RF3R813L": Pacific Oil Cooler Service
If they say it's good, it's good. And clean/inspect/test doesn't cost silly money - not for the peace of mind. Last used oil cooler I bought, had seller ship directly to them. Because it was going there anyway before it went on the car...
