Request for Help for someone who truly knows enough to be dangerous
OK, This is a quesiton from one of those guys who truly knows enough to be dangerous. I've done a number of engine drops and re-insalls and a couple of trans/engine seperations. Well, on this last one, it looks like I screwed up.
I dropped the engine to pull the tranny off to have it rebuilt. I recently reattached the two and installed them into the car. It seems that the clutch fork will not move. Could this be a clutch alignment problem? I had assumed that if you could attach the engine to the trans the fork had only one place to go, the right place! wrong or right? I am really looking forward to getting the car put back together and moving on to the suspension mods. Can anyone suggest what may have been done wrong? Do I need to drop the engine and seperate again?

The clutch fork has to ride on the throw out bearing. If it is not right, it is likely infront of (toward the front of car) bearing, againts the trans..or..well, it's not right!
Pull the motor and trans apart and get a helper to rotate the fork into position as you mate the two. It can be done with a "partial drop". With a flashlight, you can see the fork and TOB as the two mate up. Good luck. |

Souk is right, it is possible to mate the engine and trani with the fork in the wrong place, sounds like your problem.

thanks, I haven't got to far re-installing so I think it may be easier to disconnect the CV'S and oil lines and drop the whole unit rather than a partial drop. What do you think?

if getting the trans mount bolts in is easy on your car..go for what makes you happy, but those damn bolts are a PIA to line up..I almost stripped a part of one of my trans bolt hole once and had to run out to Sears for an appropriate tap to chase the threads!
