1975 struts

Working on the front of my 75. 911
How do I get the silver piece off so I can replace the strut? I put a pipe wrench on it but I’m just messing it up.

It doesn't come off...you remove the shock by removing a dowel pin in the bottom of the strut

Note the orientation of the pin… that needs to be removed, and put back same way when replacing the new shock inserts.

Ok thx. I got the old ones out. Now just having difficulty getting the new strut in far enough that the roll pin engages. It seems to bottom out. Then I put in the pin but the strut can still slide out. I figure it’s not sitting flush all the way down.
