Odd Question? What to do with 911 body/shell after dismantling?
As I am in the process of transferring engines, doors, fenders, everything basically... from a written off 911 to my daily/weekly driver.
I am calling around on how to dispose of the stripped down body. But either no answer or put on hold for 20 minutes...I have never scrapped a car so...new to me. Thought maybe a few have had to donate/scrap a body before. I know some pay you but this will have all the parts stripped off, etc...not looking for money just want the stripped body gone. I'll keep calling places but am hoping someone can shed some light on this process. I am in Texas if that matters. Thanks- Erik |
One thought is that you could cut it up and sell sections. I could use the parcel shelf, for instance. It might help to post photos. Once I had a badly rusted Mercedes fin tail parts car. I cut it into sections and took it to a scrap steel recycling container. The work goes quickly with a Sawzall.

Yup cut the good parts and sell them here.
The rest you can go to a metal recycler and get a few hundred bucks Or you can dispose the whole thing if you don't feel like dealing with "customers" |

Put it at the curb with a free sign on it. post it on fb marketplace it will be gone in 20 minutes. or in the classifieds here im sure there is someone close to you that will take it

Some good points. Well, being in an HOA neighborhood (rules...so many rules) not sure about cutting it up here. My storage unit has power so probably could cut it up there. I am not sure the cost of transporting, etc. would be worth it - back and fourth. I have a feeling after transferring pretty much the entire car (engine, dash bits, fuel tank, suspension, etc...) Junk yards will likely want the title/registration to verify the intact VIN for any vehicle they buy or accept - it’s the law.
On cutting it up - Metal scrap recycling yards might take (some) pieces, the issue again is it’s a vehicle and it has a VIN. They too don't want to get caught up with inspections of having a car w/o paperwork. Some small body shops all have scrappers come by to pickup small odds and ends pieces. Being TX, probably 2nd to CA in 911 ownership I'm sure if you list it someone will be over with a trailer in no time. |
I have cut up cars (914’s) and the metal scraper takes them without a second glance. If it’s in enough small pieces, nobody is asking about vins. It does take time, a couple saws all blades and a pick up truck. Easiest way is to just give it away. What’s one man's junk is another man’s treasure.

What is wrong with it? Wrecked? or? There is a market for a shell. I bought one that was crunched badly from an oak tree that fell on it and i put a new roof on it from a another donor shell. Any pictures?

Think sawzall is the poll winner, but am debating on some of the other options you guys have listed. Got a better grasp things... I always wanted a coupe instead of the targa. That looks easily fixable... What will be left on it when youre done stripping it?

I had been traveling/living overseas and just threw it in storage 10 years ago...and in all honesty really have struggled with "taking another one off the road forever...". The back end slammed pretty hard and had mixed opinions on "to fix or not to fix". I know now it was probably doable, but the prices of such a thing just didn't seem worth it at the time. Not when I found a coupe online for the price they were 10 years ago. Plus I really wanted to get my hands dirty and build/rebuild a car once in my life time - from rebuilding an engine to learning how to paint. So, I will be keeping most everything that is salvageable and have a spare engine/trans with 200,000 miles that I can totally tear down and learn the process of rebuilding. Silly life goals but here I am :) Erik |
Put it on BaT as a project with no reserve! Somebody will actually pay for it AND haul it away!
