No more than 8, or before if stored outside in the sun.

Depends on the Quality of the given rubber composition of that specific Tire when it left the factory from that production charge.
I've had 5.60-15 Tires for 20 years on my Oval bug and they were still in a good condition when I decided to replace them with newer ones. The newer ones which are now available – guess what – come with a worse quality. But that's not only an issue with tires it's a most possible cheap production issue in general in times of now. In case of fast driving 911's that's a different thing and I really would change them at the latest of 10 years, even they look good all around and driving is normal at that time. Also it depends on where the car with its tries is parking all the time, means the influence on the rubber material by temperature, humidity and UV/sunlight. My Cars are parking in garages where no UV/Sun is an issue and where humidity is at a normal level as well as the environment temperature means cool and not too dry.

Depends on the use case. Race clients' wife's 356 cab that sees weekend duty and is not driven hard: 7-10 years. My 911sc I put a ton of miles on and drive near the limit often, every 2 years. The performance really drops off once you've heat cycled them 100+ times.

I never get more than 10,000 miles out of my tires. Regular autocrosses, a few track days and a couple of cross country trips and or some reason the tires are down to the wear bars.
![]() When my rear tires get to this point, they are not safe in the rain, and I replace them. The fronts will have a bit more tread left, but I always buy a set of 4 new tires. If your tires are aging out, it is proof positive you are neglecting your 911 and not driving enough! Get out there and drive it.

The longest I've had tires on a car was close to 15 years and that was just stupid. I could have had a blow-out at any time.
I think 10 is the max for quality tires stored indoors (and I'm right there on my 911 - having trouble finding good tires to fit 15x6 wheels). I'm guilty of not wearing out the tires on my 911. |

I'm replacing rears every year and fronts sometimes make it two.
No track time. Lots of backroad mayhem.

I’d change them. There’s no point in aging brand new tires and staying on the old ones. I fill them with potting soil and grown potatoes and pumpkins in them…

You don't drive enough!
With my 16 inch orig rims I find replacement cost not an issue as they seem a popular size. It's another reason I appreciate this car so much, it's low running costs. Phil

Don't really know. I usually wait until they look like this to be sure I got my money's worth:

On top of that, good 15” or 16” tires — which is what most of us likely run on our older air-cooled cars — are relatively cheap given how critical they are to safety and performance. My 16” Conti ECS02’s, which is basically as good as it gets before you move to 200TW/AX stuff, are about $700 for the set. Totally worth every penny.

I just replaced my Michelin winter tires stamped with 2009. Still had better grip in the cold than my S-02 summer tires. Car feels very much better with the new Michelins. N-marked obviously

You get the best dry grip when they reach 1mm tread depth, but I switch out at 6 years.

You need to do some autocrosses and track days to get rid of that unsprung weight of all the extra rubber and brake pads.

When my SC's tires are needing replacing I do a fun track session. Nothing to lose as they are going to be replaced and I get to fine tune my throttle steering.
