Sc Number Question?

i have my eye on a 1983 sc coupe.
the car has no sunroof.
the car also has h4 (later style lights)
the vin number has zzz in it.

does it mean it is grey or european import?
when i bought my 3.2 it had both numbers "zzz" and also "ebo" which is usa? correct?

thanks

I have a 1981 911SC Coupe
It has no sunroof
The car has H4 lights
The VIN number has ZZZ in it (WPOZZZ91ZBS...)

It is a Euro car, originally bought in Germany. That's what the ZZZ means. EBO means that it is probably an original US car (or was a Euro car that was given a "proper" VIN).

My SC has a chasis number with WP0ZZZ... stamped in the sheetmetal behind the gas tank, as I understand it all of them do. The actual VIN WP0AA0... on the A-pillar. The "AA0" is US-specific, so ROW cars have ZZZ.

I read somewhere, the number stamped by the gas tank is from early in production, before the cars final market was determined. I don't know if it is true or not, but it sounds reasonable.

AFAIK most (if not all) US cars had sunroof, so you are probably looking at a ROW (Euro) car.

You should check that all US paperwork is in order (specifics regularly discussed in this forum, check the archives).

Anyway, if you can put up with the extra 24hp you should have no problem

i don't have a problem with what it is but i am concerned about re-sale values.

i will some searches for paperwork issues.

thanks for responses

b.t.w: is sunroof a good or bad thing?
weight is bad with sunroof but does it affect re-sale.

I find the lack of sunroof to be a good thing for a few reasons. First, I wouldn't use it if I had one. Second, the motors and cables tend to break down (especially after twenty years) and the parts are a pain to fix (the sunroof also tends to leak with age). Third, it saves some weight right at the top of the car, which is where you least want to have weight. Fourth, it gives a few extra inches of head room, which is nice for tall guys like me.

There are a lot of people that really like sunroofs, though, and are willing to put up with the downsides to have one.

So, in the end, it comes down to whether you like sunroofs or not.

non-sunroof is desireable, particularly for those who track the car - more headroom when wearing a helmet

were all r.o.w "grey" cars?

am i understanding this correct..

if it is a "usa" car, was it ordered as such from the factory via the dealership?

if it is a zzz or r.o.w car it should have gone through all the conversions for the usa?

if this is correct i must find a car that has zzz stamped on the area by the gas tank but "instead of "zzz" there must be "obe" at the windshield post and on the title.

are my assumptions correct?

thanks for replies..
