Small fan-large fan

To make sure I order the right size amber shroud for my 79 SC case, I need to beware of the fan size. My understanding is that the typical fan size was 245mm and the two year small size was 225mm? My rough dimensions on my fan blade diameter is 9.5 inches which suggests 245mm+-. So I should be safe going with the std (larger size) engine shroud? Was the fan housing OD the same for both fan sizes, or were the external dimensions different also?

TIA

Speedo

all the finning length are the same with the exception of the early SCs, which should be ten mm shorter. The housing for the early SCs have considerably deeper pockets under the retaining band.

Fan shroud size

I should have been more specific...the shroud part number I researched for the 78-79 SCs is 930 106 005 00 which is referred to as the smaller 225mm fan/shroud combo.
The shroud for the 80 and later SCs is 930 106 006 00 which is the larger 245mm
fan/shroud (which incidentally should be the same size fan/shroud combination as the early fan shrouds up through 77).
I am not sure I have ever owned a small fan/shroud, but want to be sure that the amber shroud I order is the correct size for my fan/shroud combo. Some of the fiberglass shroud manufacturers offer two sizes. I am not sure it matters how deep the fan shroud is...or does it?
I will check the part numbers listed on the fan/shroud tomorrow to see what I have, as it may not be an SC fan/shroud anyway, but maybe earlier.

Does this mean the outer diameter of the shroud is the same for both 226mm and 245mm fans?

It is. The outer diameter is the same. I have a '78 motor that originality had the 226mm fan. I changed that so I am using my old '71 fan, alt., and housing still using the '78 fiberglass shroud.

Reviving this slightly old thread... I'm in the process of an EFI conversion on my 1979 SC. I planned on cerakoting the fan and housing to make it look new, to match the new ITB setup. I then scrapped that plan after I removed the fan housing. I noticed some cracks in the housing that made me think a new housing was in order. Since I couldn't find a replica for the 78/79 housing (which takes the smaller fan blade), I purchased a new one from Rennline. I also plan to purchase a new fan blade to accommodate the larger housing per the Rennline instructions, but haven't gotten around to that just yet.

So, today when placing the new housing back onto the engine, I noticed that the increased size of the housing is interfering with the crankshaft pulley.

A few questions from this lovely, new development:
  1. Are the cracks significant enough that I do, in fact, need to replace the housing (pics below)? Seems like a Yes to me, but I'm no expert
  2. If yes, do I need to now replace the crankshaft pulley with a smaller one since my new housing is larger? Can someone point me to the right one (without A/C)?
  3. If I need to replace the crankshaft pulley, can this be done with the engine still in the car? Seems possible, but maybe I might as well go ahead and just drop the whole engine since there is nothing connected to the top of the engine right now (I know there is much more than that to take engine out).
