yellow wire query
So I have been battling starter motor isues - which is a long involved story and still continues. But one thing I wanted to do was install a relay after the Ign sw, on the Y circuit - to take the load off the sw. it is a b...th to repair.
I am stumped on the circuit diagrams in that the Y wire feeds also heater blower circuits - apparently from the START position. I can post the relevant pics if needed. It also feeds the CSV and the fuel pump - but there is a relay which takes over for the pump. Just figuring how to wire the relay - 85/86/30/87/87a. 85/86 has to be the trigger - which would be the normal START Y wire feed. Then we need a power source to either 87/87a (?) and the feed to the wire to the start circuit (30). Thanks Alan

Alan, unfortunately, the fuel pump relay does not reduce the current through the ignition switch, it just switches or interrupts it. The current to run the fuel pump is on the order of 10 amps or more, which flows continuously through the ignition switch.

I did the same thing as moto, with a 20 amp relay I just hang from the wires (Orange relay) all I know is it has worked for 20 yrs. I had super starter solenoid issues. You just steal the 12V from the starter and direct back to the starter solenoid thru the relay.

Motomiata and gled49 - thanks. Funnily enough - that is what I had done - in my garage - yesterday.
I just wasn't comfortable with having the solenoid exposed to the elements and was preferring to get it inside the car. PeteKz - yes I get the fuel pump side of it. Was trying to figure out the heater blower bit. According to my diag it seems to be powered from the start position - which is a bit weird. I will try and study it some more. Regards Alan

I guess there are pros and cons. Putting the relay on the starter does have the advantage of both relieving the ign sw of load, and 'bypassing' most of the Y wire circuit. Putting it under the dash takes the load off the ign sw, but still utilises the bulk of the Y wire circuit.
On balance, the starter would seem the better option - other than putting a relay in a fairly harsh environment. Regards Alan
