They specialize in backdating 993's. Very cool.

I wonder how many Singer clone companies there are these days.

There were companies doing it before Singer. Long before. Singer is/was just very good at marketing. Singers aren't the best, just the best known, so guys with money who are trendy spend them up because they are well known and the most/best marketed. Getting one of their cars on the cover of Road and Track back in 2015, and having such a glowing article written is case in point.
Not trying to ding Singer, but they are not what the fan boys make them out to be. Company referred to in this thread is one of the best IMO.

They are nice cars (Gen1) but they aren't the end all, be all that some make them out to be. (read the comments in some of the BAT auctions) JMO and I know other guys whom I respect feel the same.

I don't know if Singer is the best or not. A friend has one, I've driven it, it's a remarkable car. And at the Singer level, best is subjective at, well, best. Best at what? There's a list and everyone has their own. For my friend, Singer was the best. Would I rather have my Turbo, no, but for me it's the best, qualified as it is. But it's clear Singer paved the way for others to throw their hats in the ring and make a line of cars they think is best. |

I don't think Singer has ever claimed to be the best..or the first. I will say after seeing one at a small car event near me, Singers are stunning the in the attention detail. I know there are tuners that have been around for a long time that work on Porsches, BMWs and Mercedes, but they often focus on outrageous projects. Singer is so understated and if you didn't know what you were looking at you'd not even know what it was. It seems that Singer clients are actually looking for something LESS obvious and attention grabbing. Of course that's based on my conversation with one owner so take it for what it's worth. I also think every air cooled owner should thank Singer for helping to increase their car's value...of course that sucks if you are now trying to buy one.

I relate Porsche cars like home values. When the East coast couples started buy up all the homes in my neighborhood in Southern California. My home I paid 130,000 30years ago is now worth 1.2 million. I'm happy for that. So Singer raising the Porsche values for my 1971 Porsche. I'm happy for that too. Homes and Porsches are a investment. All depends how you look at it. Just my 2 cents.

Not all Porsches are investments...some have turned out to appreciate, but not all. Also, in recent years of artificially low interest rates some assets have become attractive. Air cooled Porsche in particular benefited. I guess, technically, you could call pretty much anything an investment...some are just better than others.
