About 20 miles from home the car started dead misfiring in keeping with tradition, my seat of the pants diag was yet another set of bosch points crapping out on me... Otherwise an uneventful drive. I forgot how comfortable these things are for long distance cruising. Gotta do a few little things this week, drivers outer door trigger and hood catch are both broken but I have parts to fix them.

Thanks! I’ll be sure to look for you at the Reunion. We’re driving down from Ohio.

Hood latch was a quick fix however the door handle trigger was not.

I purchased the trigger from rennspeed motorsports via ebay and it looked ok but the profile of the highlighted area is off so I had to reuse the old bracket thing. No worries or so I thought. I tested the door handle prior to reinstalling the door panel but in the unlock position. After reinstalling the door panel I shut the door and locked it. I then attempted to unlock it but the key firms up almost to where the normal unlock position would be. I reached through the window and tried to open the door with the interior handle and it broke off. I had to laugh because now I have a functioning exterior door handle and no interior door handle. I suspect the push rod thing isn't the same length as the old rod but the door panel will have to come back off tomorrow night. If anyone has a spare interior door handle they can bring to Werks I'll pay top dollar for it! haha

I've considered it but would still carry points in the glovebox as a backup for when the chineseium pertronix inevitably fails. I'd also need a spare coil too since it's optimized for the super low resistance flamethrower coil. I think I could buy approx. 25 points sets for the cost of the pertronix and coil too. Would probably run better though so maybe it would be worth it.

Odd, more like sad.
I'm up in the air about going Friday.

ryans65 02-28-2024 12:15 PM

Sad too, I agree. MK1 sciroccos have aged well. Not sure how or why this one ended up on pallets in a parking lot.

Bonhams preview, lovely white turbo in the parking lot. I'll upload more later when I have wifi.

25 years ago i put pertronix ignition in a 75 vw van threw the points in the glovebox. During a cross country trip with the kids in back between tucson and phoenix the van started loosing power and i pulled over and discovered the trigger wheel had disintigrated dug around and found the points and took distributor out to replace. Didnt have timing light or test light and broke into licence plate wiring to time it. Took 45 min. Got a new magnetic wheel when i got home, and a spare. Never needed the spare because they had changed the plastic to glass impregnated and it never failed on me again.
