Need assistance - Assessing Hood Condition

Looking for a replacement hood for my '84 and friend has one from a '76 912E... from the pics, how does this one look? Worth using?

I must admit I am always a little skeptical. I bought a used hood for my project and it looked good as well. I bead blasted it to get ready for paint....and found bonds, not much, but enough to make a difference, I spent a stupid amount of time trying to get it back in shape with metalwork and it was tough, its is a very flat crown panel and I am not super skilled at sheet metal work, particularly with the internal bracing. I ended up buying a new hood from Porsche which was surprisingly inexpensive.....a price so low I merely screamed. I would at minimum sand the paint off or have it plastic bead blasted. If it is unmolested, it is probably fine, if there is anything underneath, then you are probably better off looking for a better one. A lot depends on the price and your use, if it needs to be concours, then you need the cleanest one you can get....if it is a daily driver and you don't mind some imperfection, then this may be the perfect solution. Matt, am in agreement with Cloggie. Will add a simple measurement check. That is to check the "square" of the hood. Measure from front left corner to rear right corner. Same measure in opposite corners. Result should be precisely the same for a square hood. Take same measures of your existing hood or frunk and see how the numbers work out.

Almost impossible to tell the condition of a hood in a picture. I will say that the hood looks decent on the underside, no major looking issues or rust, but with the topside in what looks like primer, then there could be some filler lurking underneath. In my experience most everything that is nearly 50 years old like that hood have had something done to it in the past.

I'm working on a hood for a client now that was a basket case but in pictures didn't look too bad. Only when you remove the paint can you really know for sure.
