how to fix/repair very tight window crank on 1973 911T
The years have taken its toll on this 50 year old driver's side window cranking mechanism. i believe the spring gets wound up too tight making the glass very tough to roll up. i understand that there is a pivot or anchor point for the spring that can be repaired to relieve the tension.
can anyone provide any details on how to correct this problem? thanks Bob 1973.5T |

I would clean and lube the window regulator tracks and rollers first. Makes a huge difference.
When the pivot pin for the regulator fails the window will not want to stay up, will want to creep down, and will be very hard to roll up. The pivot pin part is cheap and easy to replace once you remove the regulator from the door which can be time consuming but is not a difficult job.

Pelican sells the part for about $50, halfway down the page. https://www.pelicanparts.com/search/?q=window%20regulator I bought and installed the newer style one in mine a few years back. It required drilling a couple of mounting holes. The new regulator is quite expensive now.

I replaced the felts and that made a big difference in window operation.

New felts work wonders. 73 felts are probably glued in and require the frame be removed from the door and a long screwdriver and hammer to get them out. Pita, but is what it is.
