Graphite Additive to 911 engine & transmission question
Porsche does not recommend additives but there is evidence that Graphite-based products like "Moly Lube" reduce friction. Has anyone used additives? JW or Wayne, what is your experience or opinion? Thanks. :)

DON'T DO IT! . . .or even think about it.
Graphite is a fine DRY lubricant, but has no business being mixed in a motor oil. |
ditto

Early_S_Man recommended the Swepco 212 w/moly to me and it's been working great in my tranny for months. It's also multi-viscosity so it has a higher heat range.

Moly and graphite are different additives.
|
Graphite and teflon oil additives = snake oil. Molybdenum disulfide is a different story. I would not put it in my engine but in a trasnsmission where the gears need an extreme pressure grease I can see some benefit.

Apparently there is a concoction called "G-M lube" or "Graphite - Moly Lube" . . ..a mix of graphite with molybdenum disulfide.
It's said to be "thee thing" in lubricants, for Pinewood cars. So, obviously, it must make 911's faster too. |
Do a search on Dow Corning's Molykote M Gear additive, fantastic stuff, and I use it in all my transmissions.

Thanks for the input. It seems that "Moly" in transmissions is o.k. but people stay away from any additives in the engine. Sounds good to me. SmileWavy

Moly is of course absolutely essential for proper camshaft break-in. There's no need for it in the engine after this initial period.
