Wiper stalk no worky correctly

So the windshield wiper stalk on my '87 doesn't ever want to work in any position (or if it does, very sporadically if jiggled in just the right spot). The separate intermittent knob works fine which is what I currently use so it's not the wiper motor. I'd like to have the regular switch work too.

Question is... can the wiper stalk contacts be cleaned / adjusted like the stalk for the turn signal / high beams (which I've done) or is it better to just replace the whole switch? What's work best for you folks?

I’m pretty sure that if you do a search on here you will find articles where people have successfully cleaned the contacts and got it working again.
