Help removing SC seats
So i had a 3.2 carrera at one point and easily removed the seats with an allen wrench.
Now, i have a 81’ 911sc, and cant find the bit to get to the 2 bolts(per each side) and and remove them. Its a very tight fit, cant get anything that fits between the rails with a ratchet Did anyone have this issue? Willing to buy the correct attachment with ratchet to make my life easier http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1710978874.jpg |
Thin Wall 10-mm Socket………
Use a thin Wall 10-mm socket to remove the 2 bolts on the seat rail. Or ground the wall of the socket to fit. The one I have is from Craftsman Tool Set.

This is what I used to get to those two nuts with a thin wall socket:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07M5BJZY1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The low profile wrench worked great - my seat blocked the upper portion of the nut head, and I also had Craftsman sockets which fit. |
I tried a 3/8th craftman socket and it was too thick to get in between the rails
|
I will definitely buy this wrench, just need a thin wall socket for it

Hopefully the combination with the low profile wrench will do it |
10-mm Thin Wall Socket………
Use 1/4” drive 10-mm thin wall socket (Craftsman) or other brand. The 3/8” drive 10-mm thin wall socket will not work because it is too big unless you grind it down to fit.

Grind down a socket to fit ....
|
Snap-on 1/4" drive should fit, they don't get much thinner than that...

Use The Appropriate Tools…….
These are what you need to remove the SC seats from the rails. Use the shorter socket for the rear bolts.

Thanks everyone
I ordered the low profile wrench and thin wall 10mm 1/4 drive craftsman |
Replace the bolts with socket head cap screws of a suitable grade when you put the seats back in - you'll find it easier to remove them again in the future if you need to.

10mm probably around 18ftlbs not sure just guessing.

Bolts upgrade
Well, i got the right tools and 10min job, I love this forum. What a wealth of knowledge, thsnk you all :)
I went though my parts stash and found 10mm allen wrench bolts They look a bit shorter than the SC bolts. I have 6, short a few… maybe someone has a couple? Also found a couple with a cut. Which ones are correct? In the picture, the oem SC bolts have the washers http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1711055941.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1711056073.jpg |
I swapped my SC to allen heads after the first time I struggled to get a 10mm in there...
It makes seat removal a breeze, which in turn makes other repairs easier. |
Belmetric, McMaster-Carr, or your local hardware store will have what you need.
Buy the right grade. I'd buy 10.9 or higher as I see no reason not to. |
Thanks! Ordered these from
Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09WYVTQQ1/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A30WUG2ZDGM0XM&psc=1 |
I used a 1/4” drive, after going thru a few sets found that Dewalt was a good fit, they’re just thin enough to get in between rail. Added another stainless steel lock washer under the bolt for next time, just to give a little extra height. Doesn’t interfere with slider motion.
I wasn’t impressed with using socket head bolts and thought maybe Torx would be better for removal but the original bolts with thicker washers aren’t a problem now. Thing about allen and Torx is you never know who’s going to mess up the head using either the wrong size or tool SAE vs MM. Also found socket head cap bolts at the local Ace Hardware, availability at Menards too, but their stock is always so messy and mixed up by guys that forget their reading glasses - which is also why socket head caps get stripped ! |

The low profile wrench, a delightful addition to the toolbox for the 911, works great with my cheapo 1/4" 10mm socket. Thanks for the link. The OEM M6x16 hex head is grade 8.8 and the torque on them was probably 10 ftlbs or less given how easily each turned. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1711234026.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1711234238.jpg |
