White; which one?
Thought there was a “white 911” thread but could not find it. Have an RS clone which currently is several shades of white. Thinking of a repaint. But which color or which white? Grand Prix, chiffon, light ivory.
Could the white 911 owners post some pics of their cars with the paint code or name? Thank you

Thank you. That is a very nice color. I am trying to tone down the "whiteness", This is mine now.

Light Ivory was used in the 60's to early 70's, and I think also at later times. When you see a white longhood, it's almost always light ivory. If you want to be period correct for a 1972-73 RS clone, that's what you should choose. The name is pretty descriptive. It's what I have on my 1973.
Grand Prix white is almost pure white. Much closer to your washer/dryer color. Chifon is almost a very light yellow. I'll try to post a picture of mine, but I've been having problems with that lately. Even so, the color rendition of your screen is different than mine, so the color you see on a computer screen will not accurately represent what you see IRL.

Hold yer horses Son.
Toyota has some amazing whites. Large flake metallic white with maybe a drop of silver. The cars almost glow. So a White or light grey primer, metallic white base coat and clear coats. Sure a Toyota white is not as fast as a Porsche white, but it's your car and you don't have to follow rules. |

Left, recent Grand Prix White repaint. Right, original '87 Grand Prix White. Sounds like GPW is too white for what you're looking for, but if you find yourself down San Diego way, come take a look.

thank you guys so far, any pics of light ivory? What other Porsche whites are there? At Rennsport I saw a geyser grey coupe that I really liked, but when I got my tach painted that color, seems to grey (and its a metallic) Geyser grey

Grand Prix & Light Ivory. Both great colors.... GP is more modern and Light Ivory more classic look to it…..For a Long Hood Light Ivory for the win and also looks real good on this 1974 Carrera. First 3 pictures Light Ivory. Last one is Gran Prix. Hope this helps.

And remember, don't chose a white by looking at your computer screen. It won't be anything like it.
You need to eye ball the color on a car in the sun then again at dusk. The colors can be quite different. |
