ITB Questions - Clays Triumph Setup

Hi,

I purchased a used version of Clay's Triumph ITB kit. I am planning on installing it on my 1977 911 S with a 2.7. I have also a set of SSI exhaust headers that I am planning on installing at the same time.

The kit looks to be mostly complete, minus an FPR which I can source locally. Initially I plan to run the ITBs as Fuel Only and use my stock CDI and distributor for spark.

As I am reviewing the kit and planning for installation, I have a couple of questions:

1. Does anyone have a installation manual? I've been reviewing Clay's thread but it is missing some details.
2. The wiring loom I have includes connectors for 2 bank of injectors with one of the banks being disconnected. In reviewing other threads, how does the ECU know which Injector to fire if the injectors are all hooked up in serial? This one has been stumping me as I would have assumed the injectors would receive a trigger to fire that syncronizes with the spark?
3. Should there be a crank or cam sensor that I should investigate? This comes back to how does the ECU know which cylinder is firing?
4. I plan on taking my SSI exhaust to a local exhaust shop and having them install a bung. How does the O2 sensor route back to the ECU and how do I route it around the engine so it doesn't melt.

In my planning, I may look to replace the spark with a COP solution but I'm hoping to keep the costs down.

Thanks,
Kevin

It's been awhile since I did my install and no longer have the system, but I believe it's setup for bank 1 and bank 2. I'll see if I have the wiring diagram. If Al Kosmal sees this, he can chine in as he also sold this setup for the Jenvey's.

PM me your email

1. I never got a manual with mine, you kinda just piece things together, what ECU are you using? If Megasquirt, download the manual, read through it a few times, it will answer a lot of questions.

2. Depends on your fuel setup, (sequential vs untimed). Sequential requires 6 injector drivers from the ECU as well as a cam sensor. The simplest setup is batch injection, which is untimed, where the ECU fires both banks alternating or simultaneously with a set amount of fuel, depending on the fuel map. In my batch fuel setup, I have 3 banks of 2 injectors each. I personally wired mine in firing order (1-4, 6-3, 2-5), and have them firing simultaneously.

3. Again, depends on what you want. If you're only doing batch injection fuel, you don't need a crank or cam sensor, as the injection is dumb and just goes, you just need a tach signal to the ECU IIRC. Sequential will need a cam sensor.

4. You'll want a wideband controller of some sort for the O2 sensor. Depending on the ECU, some have a controller built in, or you use an external one (14point7, AEM, Innovate, etc), and wire it up. Depending on where you are mounting the ECU, you can route cables from the engine bay to the interior fairly easily, there's a few access holes near the tranny tunnel to the shift coupler. Crawl under your car, you'll see a fat pile of wires in black sheathing that runs from the engine to the cabin, it's a good route for running more wires.

Here's a great thread that's 911-specific https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1134997-efi-tuning-how-process-description.html

Thanks for the explanation, the concept of batch vs sequential injection is where I was partly confused.

I did hear from Al and will look to continue my planning for the install!
