Early 911 rear light wiring
Hi All,
I'm restoring a 71T. I bought aftermarket rear lights which came with wiring which I think is for later cars than mine. Which wire do I use for the fuel level sender? See images. Thanks for any input Jörgen Forssling Gothenburg SWEDEN ![]()

early 911 rear light wiring
These are the wrong ones and fit a G model car, the wires shown are for the licenseplate lighting and foglights,
You need these :https://www.kroonwireharnesses.com/porsche-911/porsche-911-1971/wire-harnes-for-rear-light I assume your are referring to the oil level sender (not fuel) on the right side ? This is the green-white wire. On the left side the same wire can be used for a foglight. If you need more info, just ask: info@kroonwireharnesses.com

For 1970 the female pin to the left of the clocking indicator should be the correct wire for the sender wire.
(5 O'clock when indicator is at 6 O'clock looking at it.) one of the external wires will be ground, one will be for the sender. Gerald is correct, you need both of the correct rear light harnesses for the new housings. or map out the wires. The ones on there are likely from 84 and up.

Thanks for chiming in Dennis... But I'm close to the edge on where spending money on this project is fun... I will have to modify these harnesses to work. Wish me luck...

Early 911 rear light wiring - solved
Hi All, I finally got the time to look at this. (Been busy putting in new interior!) It was not that difficult. The blue wire going to the connector is the one to use for the oil level sender. The brown ones are ground. The white is for pos 6 on the connector which is not used on my original main harness. All other wires corresponded to the right bulb.
I folded the ones that I'm not using and put some shrink wrap on them. The blue got a male spade connector and the ground a ring connector. Thought others might find this info useful. Have a great summer! Jörgen |

Should be it. Check with a ohmmeter.

Thanks Dennis!
I'm measuring 7.6 volts at the pin when I turn the key. Does this confirm the fact that this is the right pin? (i'm a bit scared of harming the electronics) with kind regards, David ![]()

Just measure ohms on the female pin you asked about to the wire going to the sender.
You are measuring partial gauge power with ignition on. If you want to check continuity to the gauge, disconnect the wire at the gauge, and check from that pin to the female spade. Not sure what you are trying to yes/find out?

Thanks Dennis, will do that. The objective is to find the right wires from my aftermarket tail lights to the sender. The colors shown in previous post don't seem to match mine. The wire coming from my "5 o'clock" female pin is red.
