Finally got an original shift knob.

These things are surprisingly expensive for what they are. Anyway i got an original knob for the top of my shifter and a crush sleeve.
Any tricks or tips for putting this on so i don't damage the knob putting it on?

getting the old one off i was just going to put an open ended wrench under it and hammer it off.

Make sure its lined up to your satisfaction, and double check. You don’t want to have to take it off and do it again

I'd jut some protective tape on the shift lever before you start beating around on it with a wrench and hammer. you don't want to damage the paint trying to get the old one off.

Don't beat on it heavily. Line up. Pad with something like a folded towel. Tap on with rubber mallet. Stomski Racing makes a neat plastic tool for this that is included with their shifter kits. Give Steve a call and I bet he would sell you one. He's a good guy.

thanks guys .. i like the folded towel idea... i couldn't seem to find an original one under 80-100 dollars used..

but while at Hershey some guy sold me an entire beat up shifting assembly for 15 bucks.. ..guess what was on the end.

if it went on and off that easy i would be concerned, the crush washer should be one use and i would NOT want it to come off that easy . I hope im wrong.

Yes, it's too easy as the crush washer is probably worn out. The OP question was for tricks on how to mount the shift knob with the crush washer. This is demonstrated by the video quite good.

my re: to iceman was regarding the easy removal of it...the crush washers usually do not get worn out ..most likely aftermarket knob..i`d say;-)

I wouldn't use a nice new crush washer on a 40 year-old bakelite knob.
I's build up the shift rod with tape and get a tight secure fit.

My original 1973 knob with original crush washer have been off and back on about 3 times. Still holds secure.

I believe for your 911 is a knob without the white-silver lettering like this on pics.Also originals have kinda orange peel look on the bottom part of it.
The right is my original -left is spare..crush washers are old right is original to the car

Panthers is too much for them. They are rolling all lines well. Oilers are a two line team , Panthers are wearing them out and we all know it is the goalie that wins you the cup. Bobrovsky is far outplaying skinner. ill grab a pic of my car and the knob if i can find it lol.
