WUR Rebuilders/Refurbs in 2024?

Working through a potential cold control pressure issue that leads to a hunting/stalling code idle (and a perfect warm idle!) that I suspect is due to an aged out WUR. No obvious vacuum leaks, resistance in spec, has voltage, and bought a fuel pressure gauge kit to spend some time with this weekend. But expecting (hoping?) it's the WUR. Prefer not to mess around rebuilding it in my apartment right now, and so looking at options to have it rebuilt.

There seems to be a few folks / shops that do WUR rebuilds or core-swaps, but some seem to have come and gone over the last ~20 years of this forum's history.

Right now, as of June 2024, I see/have contacted:

Any others I'm missing? Ideally I'd get a rebuilt WUR that's had the pin tapped + made adjustable, but want to optimize for turnaround time so I don't miss out on driving weather.

Our lead time depends on the part number.
Rebuild is Bosch certified with genuine Bosch parts which you cannot purchase on the open market. Best way to contact is via email. Can do custom settings for modified engines.
Thanks!

I only use one man for this job, because I think he is the only one who really understands the complete CIS system. Tony Does This For Fun, he is brilliant .

Nice to have a choice.
My 75 has a wur. It is working and it is original but it will be at least 50 years old in August.
I could buy a couple old wurs and remove the guts and reuse them set up a rig to test it but.. the components would still be over 35 years old.
If Rarly has new Bosch comonents and others have 35+ year old components that they reinstall.
is there really a choice?

First, and before you go mucking around, and possibly cause a problem you don't currently have: Measure your CIS pressures with a CIS gauge/valve setup. If the pressures are within spec, don't mess with it. The old maxim applies, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Post your pressures here. CCP, WCP, SP, and RP/time.

I've opened up 3 WURs (so far). The innards were all fine. If one of the diaphragms isn't torn or cracked or otherwise damaged, you can reuse it. What usually causes a WUR problem is old fuel and crud from sitting too long with ethanol-contaminated fuel. Then the inlet screen and fuel pressure diaphragm need cleaning. BTW, the control fuel pressure diaphragm is stainless steel, so it should last roughly forever. The other one or two (depending on your WUR) are made of a rubber impregnated fabric.

If your WUR requires adjustment, do it yourself with the instructions in this Forum, or send it to Tony.

Yes, I believe making it adjustable is the way to go and should be part of your inquiry and decision process in choosing a vendor, don't know who offers what.

Details below

I believe there are at least 2 more rebuilders not on your list whose names I can't recall right now.

Tony is the only one I've ever used. I've always been happy with his service.

I mentioned my plan to test & measure in the very first paragraph :-)

My WUR has no more (external) adjustment left. The pin has been hammered down by a PO or two over the years, likely as the strip curved or other parts fatigued.

A big reason for wanting an adjustable WUR is to a) future proof this and b) give some near-term weather adjustment, since I don’t live in sunny California.

For posterity and completeness, CIS Flowtech is another shop that has come up a few times as well: https://cisflowtech.com/ - although more of a “call for pricing” approach based on their site. Turnaround time TBD.

For sure Tony is a solid choice and he will deliver you a perfect WUR (or find one that is perfect from his stock if yours is shot)

But, you can do this yourself. The specs for WURs are available on this forum and the interwebs and if you're handy and have a voltmeter and a CIS pressure gauge you can get there yourself. I did and it wasn't more than a few hours of tinkering.

CIS Flowtech will NOT modify your WUR to make the Cold Start setting adjustable- I requested that service when they did my unit. But Tony made the modification after I got it back from CIS Flowtech, and that adjustability is a must in my book, over the long term. I have been very happy with Tony's assistance/guidance, service and turnaround time. Hope this helps.

I've used specialT a lot...not recommended .... she sends here cis parts out to various rebuilders and half the time the stuff is not calibrated correctly.

great customer service though she'll just send you another one.

flowtech is like 4 months out on rebuilds, just called the other day

+1 for Tony. My WUR came back good as new with the CS adjustment mod after 2 or 3 weeks. Works perfect.

Wish I could have the same experience with Tony. I caught him in between international trips, and am not pleased with the results. It's going to happen

930cabman,

I looked and searched my logbook and could not find any record or information that I had done work for you. Maybe it was under your full name. I would be more than happy to reimburse your payment.

As of today, there are more than 250 plus WUR’s that I have rebuilt for Pelicanparts members over the years with amazing success. Please PM me your email, full name, model of WUR, or any related information that we had done business before. Thanks.

Tony

Tony,

Thank you and I am not doubting your abilities in the least and are not looking for a reimbursement. Surely we had a mixup in communications and I have no doubt you will make things right.
