86 911: Foglight rewire to be independent of the lights - best fuse to relocate to?
I have a 1986 911 Carrera. I read a few threads on here and just want to make sure I have this right. I installed the JWest headlight relay kit, which now works great, but triggers my high beams when I turn on the foglights. This is apparently a side effect of the relay kit and a simple rewire can solve it.
From my reading earlier and someone posting pictures, it seems I need to take the gray wire from fuse #20 (2nd from front, fog light switch fuse) and extend and relocate it to another fuse with ignition power. someone previously mentioned to relocate it to fuse 11 (flasher relay/reverse lights) and someone else said they used fuse 8 (power mirrors/heating control)...both 16A. anyone have a definitive, best way or option as to which fuse to draw the foglight relay trigger to? id like to have them be able to work with the parking lights, low or high beams all independently and be able to use them by themselves or any combination of the other lights. im not opposed to having them work by themselves without parking lights needing to be on as well. picture below is the gray wire on fuse 20, which is correct right?

The factory manual has instructions on how to wire the fogs so they will operate with without headlights (like in Europe). I think when wired this way, the fogs can be used with headlights as well, but turn off when you are using high beams.
The fuse numbers are probably different on a Carrera, but this worked on my SC. Not sure if this will help you:  Mark

not sure if that diagram will help. this is my current setup. the gray wire everyone talks about is on Fuse 20 bottom. is that the wire that needs to be relocated to maybe Fuse 8 (power mirrors).
if Fuse 20 is the foglight relay, is that gray wire the relay trigger?

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, haven't had a lot of time lately. Not sure about your last question, but at least this will bump you back to the top.
I wired in my fogs over 20 years ago, and I think my SC is going to be different. See if this thread helps: Running Fog Lights only.... Mark
