911 SC 3.6 swap - engine cradle

I’m putting a 3.6 in 1980 SC and understand I can use either the SC or 3.2 cradle.

What’s the difference?
The SC seams to be more available (and less expensive) than the 3.2.

Don’t quote me but I believe it has something to do with pulley clearance and the AC compressor fitment.

You can't use the 3.0 console

you can use either the 964/993 or 3.2 console

If using the 3.2 console you will need a single or possibly dual sheave pulley. I used a 993RS single sheave on mine so am unsure if a dual sheave will work. I Don't know what you would use if it's a 964 engine as the only pulley w/ a damper that the 964 uses is a triple.

use any 911 crossbar w/ the 3.2 console

a 993 nvr engine fits perfectly w/ the 3.2 console and cross bar as does any 911 exhaust though you do want at least 1 5/8" and preferably 1 3/4" primaries. Fitting the stock air box and filter will also be a trail many just use a cone type.

The best exhaust I've found is a Fabspeed RSR, These sound great and are not very loud at all and they make heat hookup easy.

I have seen custom tin surrounds but found it better to use f/g. Roger Sheridan actually makes a f/g surround for this application that works well.

If using a stock 964/993 console you use the stock 964/993 crossbar. W/ this method the motormounts are spaced down ~1" which makes the exhaust a bit of an issue.

I agree that the 3.2 cradle is crazy expensive, I believe the blame partly belongs to a certain west coast shop that buys them up as quickly as they become available. It took me a couple of years of trolling sellers on the parts forum, finally found a guy selling something else that also had the 3.2 console. I bid on one on E-bay the seller then doubled the price so I lost interest there.

993RS pulley

3,2 console the stock bolts need to be replaced w/ studs

Sheridan f/g surrounds, they also come raw not painted black like here, Rennline ss c9111 cross bar and motormounts.

Thanks Bill,
It’s a 964 engine, I’ll modify the 964 cradle/bar; the 3.2 is not worth it and as you stated, I’d have to deal with crank pulley.

You might be able to use the 964 console and cross bar but the tie is soooo tall,

compare the 2 methods

using 964/993 console and cross bar

using 3.2 console and 9111 cross bar, I still, need to fiddle a little but this is fine

Unless you really rim down the 964 surround tin you need to space the rear of the motor down w/ these

that cascades to affect the exhaust, when i had a custom welded setup the exhaust was fine but any off the shelf 911 type hung low and looked like shi*

custom Fabspeed looked great was way too loud and after 20yrs failed

off the shelf Fabspeed RSR sounds great but hangs too low w/ 964/993 mounting

massaged Fabspeed looks better but still hangs low, one suggestion that I didn't try was to reverse the I/o connections on the muffle. I saw pics and it does look ok that way.

w/ 3.2 and 911 mounts

Bill thanks for sharing all the info. I am also working on fitting a 964 motor in a g-body. I plan on using a 3.2 console if I can find one.
