Backdate Question on the Front End
Hey guys. What are you doing with these brackets for a backdate?
I was just going to drill them out and get rid of them, but can keep them if that's a thing. ![]()

I did a backdate and removed almost all of those brackets. Only piece you need to keep is the section at the back that holds the U shaped front fender support that bridges the body to the front fender - there is a top bolt in the headlight bucket for them.
I did all steel so I probably could have left them off, but I just wanted the stiffness for that fender front. I looked for a pic that better showed what I meant....but could not find one. Let me know if I need to clarify and I will dig harder... Good luck! D. |

Some guys remove them partially as you have done, or completely. I opted to trim them back and 1) welded reinforcements to them that are tied into the backdate bumper mounts, and 2) made brackets that will both support the ends of the new bumper as well as connecting to the headlight bucket and stabilizing the fender. I used threaded rod so that I would have adjustability, and to be able to pull the bumper and fender joint together with the seal in between.

I cut most of mine away but used parts as mounting brackets for other things I moved around like the horns etc….
Don’t think there’s any best answer… maybe mount hidden turret guns?

i did the same as mike, just left them. the only mods i did to the tub were a couple of holes for the front bumper brackets and removal of the reflector plate on the back. all steel backdate as well, and mine is easily reversible…
