Removing Trans Support Bracket
I need to remove the transmission support bracket in order to get to the fuel lines to replace them.
The smaller nuts in the middle (yellow arrows) came out easily enough, but the bigger ones (red arrow) aren’t budging. I thought I’d check to make sure I’m not going down the wrong path before I break out heavier artillery. I’m a just OK mechanic. I’m OK when things go as planned, but my skill level is such that I can get in over my head if I’m not careful. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1722968270.jpg |
Your car doesn't look too crusty at all. They are pretty tight. Just be careful of course, you can use an impact but I'd just break it free with one, then remove by hand to get a feel of what you are up against.

Agreed, just tight. Be very careful when re-installing them, the fine thread is very easy to cross thread. In by hand is the the way to go.
|
And on reassembly, start them by hand and be sure to not cross- thread them, or yer screwed.
|
One more note,, make sure the 4 smaller ones are loose when you hand feed the two big ones ,, just to make sure they get threaded in correctly ,, then you can tighten everything up ..

Thanks a billion. I just needed a shot of courage!
I used a breaker bar extender and a little extra effort and they loosened smoothly. |
And when you put them back don’t use them to lift the transmission back into place; use a jack for that.
