Do single posts X style lifts work on a 911?

this may be a silly question but talking to a mechanic who is not an expert with Porsches he was afraid his shop only has one of those underground lifts with single post that have an "x" style plate.

I'm not sure why is this a concern, does anyone may have a clue? or can I be safe using his lift?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Just extend the arms to the pickup points and you are good.

Looks just like the lifts in professional auto repair shops. Seen plenty of Porsches on those.

The shop (air cooled specialist) I use has a few of these. No issues.

It will work but you will have to dig a deep hole for the cylinder. Sonotube for the wall form. There's a reason you don't see those anymore, money. Four post, two post is the way to go.

Depending how low your car is, they may have to fashion a ramp to get the car on the lift

I guess I'm old then. There were two in a gas station I used to work in Ramps are easy but there's another thread here with a work around for that. Personally I'd like a two post but the scissor is less of a hassle for install.

I would think that the hydraulic ram would need to have an 8-10’ hole in the ground, so might be deal breaker in a home garage.

Would be a very uncluttered garage though without posts to bang into.

That lift in the picture is recessed into the floor. But I’ve seen old school gas station garage with the style that wasn’t in-floor and by OSHA standards are trip hazards and obsolete.

At least his mechanic questioned the viability of his lift. Knowing the proper lift points and having the pinch weld pads in place, even the best of air cooled shops can cause undercarriage damage.
Shop put a nice dent in my rear rocker. Probably wasn’t watching it go up or arm was accidentally moved out of alignment, well hidden damage I didn’t notice until months later when it came time for me to lift the car at home.

I always thought the EPA banned those lifts in case the fluid leeches into the ground. After this thread popped up, I learned low pressure in ground lifts are exempted from EPA regs since 2019.

I hate these lifts, if you've ever worked on a car at full height on one and had it spin a little you'll
know the kind of panic it induces!! I saw one at a different shop shoot a geyser of hydraulic fluid about 20 feet in the air and hit the ceiling of the shop.
