Exclamation Engine mounts replacement

1987 Carrera
I a am planning to replace my engine mounts and would appreciate your advice.
1. any suggestion or trick to the removal of the 2 small bolts on the mount? It seems to be very difficult to hold the holding nuts underneath the plate in order to unscrew the bolts...
2. Any suggestion as to which engine mounts you suggest for regular driving 87 Carrera
suitable more for comfort then racing...

The Club Sport (Cab) engine/transmission mounts, 911-375-043-07, won't work on a G50 transmission. But are a great upgrade for the engine mounts on an 87.

Installation Issue
The 87 rear engine support is threaded so when removing the bar to mount bolt the bar typically gets bent due to corrosion between the bolt and bar.

Support the engine, remove the center bolts first, then lower the engine about 2 inches to get access to the small nuts.

New mounts will show a reduction in noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). Some have also noticed an improvement in shifting. At 24 years old they're long overdue for replacement.

I am considering changing my mounts to clubsport as well, they are the originals from what I can tell from previous owners records...does one have to change tranny and engine together or can I start with engine first?

engine mounts replacement

I do not believe in the concept "if it aint broken"...
It seems to me that the small nuts, in an 87 Carrera, are held by the car frame and are you access them in the engine compartment, they need to be held firm and motionless with a socket while you unscrew the small bolts...
I was wondering if there is a trick or method in holding the nuts motionless because of the limited space access.
I do not want to use a "club sport" mounts if they are not meant for my car...so I would appreciate your suggestion as to which ones you suggest should I use for the type of driving that I do?....mainly comfort driving.

I recently did mine on a 930. Much less room to work. I removed the charge pipe and intercooler on the left but managed without removing the a/c pump on the right. I didn't need to lower the engine - just supported it while removing the old mounts.

I recommend that you search the forum as there's a lot of great info on how to access the small nuts, with photos. Getting them off is relatively simple with an appropriate sized wrench to keep the nuts from turning. Take a minute to study the angle of attack for your wrench. Getting them on requires patience, and I used double sided tape on a finger/or tape under the closed side of the combination wrench to get the nut and lock washer in place.

Some have had drama loosening the larger centre bolt - in the form of a bent engine support. Spray the bolts with Pb Blaster a few times and let it sit for a day. If you have an impact gun to get it started the oscillating force may be effective in loosening the grasp. Patience vs brute force.

I went with Rebel Racing mounts; Wevo are very nice but Rebel are an easier update for the transmission mounts on my car so it was more convenient to source everything from one vendor.

Enjoy - it's an easy job, just take your time.

Use a offset combination box end wrench.

Did this last spring on an '88. Patience is key as its quite doable to get a stubby or even full-length wrench on the bottom side. A bit easier with the large bolt out but I didn't lower my engine any to get at them. Where abouts in Toronto are you? Happy to help if you're not too far from Don Mills area.
As for mounts themselves sounds like stock mounts would work for you - two ways to go; just the insert or the entire mount. OEM looks affordable from our host.
If you are replacing the motor mounts are you also planning to do the transmission mounts? I used the Rennline mounts for G50 and those are available in a stack hardness (S-13009).

Ivan,

Pelican no longer indicates what the different mounts 911-375-043-00 and 911-375-043-07 are for but the 87-89 PET does.

The 911-375-043-07 mounts are for a Cabrio 930.20/25/26 and M637 (the Club Sport option).

if old mounts are worn, replace with whatever OEM style mounts you get.
you will be good.

no need to believe you need to go beyond.
though them WEVO mounts are eyecandy I must admit

Motor mounts installation

Thanks for your help...
Please advise what are the torquing requirements for the the M12 BOLT and the M8 bolt attaching the new motor mount....I am not quite clear what they are in the Bently book.
