Question AC hi and low side fittings

I've found some R12 and am set to add it to my AC before heading to South Texas where it is expected to hit 100 tomorrow. Not that the AC is going to do that much good down there but at least the drive down early tomorrow morning might not be that bad. I assume the low pressure fitting is the one on the top of the comppressor and its the one that is used to add R12. Correct?

Not sure about your particular compressor but the high side of the compressor leads to the condensor on the engine lid and the low side comes from the evaporator in the trunk.

If you don't know which side is the high side and which side is the low side, better take it to someone that knows.. Hooking up the can of freon to the high side may cause the can to explode if the system already has freon in it.

Look for S (Suction/low) and D(Discharge/high)

There are no identifying characters on the compressor for the high side and low side but after reading all I could find I identified the low side as the line leading to the evaporator. I hooked the hose fittings from the R12 can to the compressor (burning several fingers in the process) and proceeded to add a can of R12. Unfortunately (for the environment which considering it is Houston isn't a total loss and me) the equipment my neighbor and I used leaked something awful. I did got the temperature at the vents to drop from 80 degrees to 75 so not all was not a loss. When you consider this represented a 20 degree drop between the ambiant temp of 95 and the discharge temp I'm almost feeling professional. However I know I can get the temperature down lower because not to long ago it was discharging in the 40's. I plan on taking the car to a shop as soon as I return home.

The line going to the suction side of the compressor is a larger diameter than the discharge.
