3.2 Seat Adjustment Repair

A while back I had to pull the adjustable Recaro driver's seat out of my '85 as the e-clip failed at the hinge point between the seat cushion and the back Broken Seat. While repairing it, I probably overextended the power cable controlling the seat back tilt and now it won't work. The two-way switch on the seat tests fine, so I probably pulled the connections out.

Anyone have any insight into the motor in the seat back? I'm happy to get in there to fix it... just want to know what I'm in for. Haven't been able to find any detail...

Appreciate any insight!

The motor up in the seat back is really hard to get to. You pretty much are going to have to de-skin it. Before you do that, check all the wires. The motors just put 12 volts to one or the other wires going to the motor. It will spin one way, and just put the power to the other wire and it should reverse.

I stripped my leather skin off convinced the motor or some connections was bad.

Then I did a forehead slap and found the problem was the break in the wire.

This is the same break.

The actual motor is buried up inside the headrest. Only removing the skin will give you access.

Just double check the wires themselves before making a lot of work for yourself.

Thanks Glen - appreciate the insight. Will test as recommended before de-skinning it.

Glen - finally got around to working on this. As suggested, it was a broken wire. Whomever originally zip-tied the original wires really cracked on them; the slightest pull and they were bound to break. Wires fixed… recline works.

Thanks again!
