Go over to Early911S, DaveP has an engine list. Not a VIN list though. Someone over there just did match a chassis to the original motor. My guess is mine came out of a totaled 69 as I have a lot of 69 bits and pieces.

Is there any way of verifying various car numbers (engine, chassis, gearbox) as they rolled out the factory? My local porsche dealer says they used to offer the service but don't any more.

https://www.porsche.com/usa/accessoriesandservices/classic/technicalcertificate/ Sometimes a friendly dealer will look up a VIN in their system and print the screen, but I think that only works with cars starting with the 1981 model year. Mark

Cross reference the OP over on Early911s and draw your own conclusions.
