Fuel tank, lines and pump replacement show and tell
2 years ago, the fuel pump in my ‘73 Targa began to leak profusely. I knew that the hoses would crumble as soon as I tried to remove them, so I embarked upon a fuel line and pump replacement project. With encouragement and a ton of help and guidance from Len Cummings and advice from scores of fellow forum followers, I moved the fuel pump up front, replaced the tank with one with the cutaway for the pump and replaced all the lines.
A wiring harness from Timmy2 let me connect the front mounted pump in a way that looked factory. I thought I’d post a few pictures so you guys can tell me what a great job I did! The front mounted pump looked a little exposed to me so I finished it off with a skid plate. After sitting for two years, I had some work to do to get the car going again, but now it’s running like a top. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Looks great! Were you able to find the correct size hose for the pump inlet? I could not, and the guy who last worked on mine apparently couldn't either so he used the right size non-fuel-rated hose which disintegrated over the last 9 months.
I replaced it with fuel rated hose that is 1-2 mm too small in diameter- tight fit over the pipe. Sent from my Pixel 7 using Tapatalk |

I got the hose for the pump inlet from Bel-Metric.
I had to buy a foot but only used 4”. I’d be happy to send you the remaining 8” if you’d like. |

Quickstep, nice setup. I have a setup also supplied by Len Cummings in the Sweet Transplant. Len makes good stuff and is so helpful.
Cheers, Johan
