Door stop drama

Took apart my door today to try and install a door stop reinforcement kit, only to discover that my door shell is missing some very necessary parts:

Yeah, I ain't talented enough to repair that. So, alternatives! Anyone ever installed a Jeep-style "check strap" on a 911 before?

A footman loop, some nylon webbing like my door handles use, a 1/4" eyelet/grommet... Should be fairly cheap, all said and done.

How about other ideas?

I'm not sure if @eastbay understands that the metal that the common bolt-in plate solution relies on is ripped out, from what I can see. If eastbay does understand that and knows of a bolt-in solution for this bigger problem, I'd love to learn more about it.

There is a guy in New Zealand, I think, who makes leather external check straps and sells the hardware.

ST-Classic dot com

I ordered a set b/c my 964 has the same issue you have. I haven't installed them yet but the hardware looks a lot like the pic you posted and that solution would be quite a bit cheaper.

Maybe not for you.... but it works. Doesn't get any cheaper either.

If you know or can find a welder, you might be able to get away with using that Rennline reinforcement kit, and having welded to the inside of the opening. That should give you a surface similar to its original intent.

My driver's side door stay broke last week. Without looking at the area, I went ahead and ordered the repair kit from out host thinking the sheet metal was ripped up too. It turns out that the sheet metal that holds the door stay was perfect. The metal in front of it was messed up but nothing too bad.

I went ahead and put the whole kit in on the driver's side. The bolts that come with the kit are ridiculously short. I couldn't even get them started so I used a couple that were 20mm long.

It's an easy fix. Taking the door panel off and putting back on takes more time than the repair.

I used some thin safety wire to hold the inside plate until I had one of the bolts attached to avoid dropping it into the abyss of the door.
