Drivability Woes- 3.2 motronic

Car is an 86 targa. All stock with exception of skinned airbox cover. 85k miles. Car was in storage for 5 years until recently.

Prior to getting back on the road, i changed 02 sensor, plugs, cap, rotor, fuel. air and oil filters and engine oil. The plugs that came out looked perfect, and there is no evidence of oil consumption.

Car has an annoying off idle hesitation that clears up by 2k rpm. Feels like a lean spot in the enrichment maps, or inadequate 'accelerator pump' enrichment. If i disconnect the 02 sensor, the car runs more smoothly.

Start up and steady state operation are fine, warm or cold, but once warmed up the car has a tendency to intermittingly develop an annoying hunting idle..rolling between 700rpm or so and 1200.

Any guesses as to what is going on here. (and yes..i checked the vaccum lines to the FPR and Damper, and they are intact)

From what you just described, it sounds like a classic over rich condition that would likely go away when you get your CO set to spec.

If your idles hunting, that's usually a sign of rich mixture, why it's going rich but wasn't doing so before is beyond me. You might have to adjust the afm and if this is the case it's not too hard.

I'm most likely wrong here, but wouldn't disconnecting the O2 sensor make it richer still? Maybe it's a partially clogged injector/ running a little lean problem that's helped by a richer mix when the O2 is pulled? Either way, a bottle of Techron couldn't hurt. Just my $0.000002 worth.
