Installation of EZ Electric Power Steering
Several months ago I bought this for about 1,500 Euro's. In a way, the installation is fairly easy and in other ways it fairly difficult.
The Instruction up to the removing of the Metal and the Hammering to add a little space were the easy Part! The removal of Metal on the right side got me a little confused because of the different Camera Angle and my total Lack of Knowledge of the internal Body Work Structure. As you look at the Steering Shaft area I removed the correct amount of Metal and hammered down the Little tray under the Steering Shaft on the Left side about as perfectly as possible! On the Right side of the shaft I did a Lot more than was Necessary. If I did it again I would have only notched the Ledge at the back and front and hammered it down. I tried to remove the ridge completely and it is only spot welded together and I had to tack it back together. The Most difficult part is to "Clock" the U Joints so you do not have Binding or a Notchy feel. He has arrows on the Shaft but they do not match up with how the U Joints came out on the Original Steering shaft. SO after a lot of trial and error, I think the Arrows are correct and if you get a little Notchy feel it may be because the Motor needs a little more clearance. That is the point I am at right now. The Wiring is about as Simple as it can get. The Big Red Wire to the Positive of the Battery. The large Black Wire to Ground. The Thin Red Wire to Switched Power and the Thin Black wire to Ground, The Thin Blue Wire to the Electric Speedometer and the Rheostat switch mount to the dash. I am going to remove the Motor and increase the space around it and then see if the last little bit of Notchy is gone then I will wire it up and take a ride. I will also take a Pic of how the area looks after the Cutting and Hammering. I thought I had taken a Pic of that! Here are the Pics so far! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

If you look at the Last Pic, you will see that the Bottom U Joint is not fully seated on the Steering Shaft Box. I removed everything and Increased the amount of Motor clearance to the point that the right side wall is now about 1/4 inch from the Vacuum tube under the Dash.
I am taking more Pics tonight to show the Area where the Motor sits and that the U Joint is now fully seated on the Steering Box Shaft. Finally I am now ready to wire this and see how it feels. This may sound weird, But I have actually enjoyed installing this and working out the Problems. The man who Invented this Roger Reijngoud has been an absolute Pleasure to work with Even though I am possibly the Dummest person he has ever worked with, he has Always treated me like an Equal ![]() I hope that dealing with me will allow him to alter his instructions enough to make them Dam Fool Proof! ![]() I guess it was not enough that we just went through an Earthquake (5.8 is real even for the West coast) with all of the After Shocks, but now We are getting ready for the Hurricane Irene Rain and wind. Why do I mention this? I am doing the work under my Car Port in my Back Yard! ![]()

It is Now Installed Minus the Wiring!
Things to note are the Area around the Green Tape first 2 Pics Needed to be recessed more. ![]() ![]() Here is the same area Recessed about 1/4 inch More overall. ![]() ![]() Here is the Unit Installed and note how the U Joint is now fully seated on the Steering Rack Shaft Compared to the Last Pic in my first Post. ![]() ![]() It now steers Left to right just as smoothly as Stock. Remember, with this unit installed, The car steers exactly the same when unit is off! Try that with your Power Steering. Now to wire it and put everything back together ![]()

Does it work?
Vincent,
What's the advantage or benefit of having one installed? Did you find a big change in the steering effort? Keep us posted. Tony |

I would have just adjusted the castor, if I wanted to make my steering easier, but that's just me.

Nice hearing from you Tony! (I Still apprecaite your help on the MSD) I have not wired it yet so I will know "Hopefully" this Sunday Weather permitting. Why?? First, this is Primarlly my wife's car. We live in the City where Parking is very tight (Washington DC). She Loves Driving the car but has to "Feel Up to it" because of pulling out and into tight parking spaces. With this system, it is hooked up to the Electric Speedometer, so it is more Boosted when driving slow and and is very low Boosted when driving fast.and only weighs about 5 to 7 pounds total over stock Second, it takes ZERO HP from the engine and very little Electricity when in use and NO ELectricity when going straight. Third, It is Totally Electric and has no Hoses or Hydraulic Fluid to use or replace. Fourth, When turned off, the car "STILL" Steers EXACTLY as it did before installing this System Last, it even has a Poteniometer that you can dial up the Boost (Like in a really tight parking space) so that you can get out with very little Effort and then dial it back down. In otherwords "When your Wife is Happy, you are Estatic! This will really make her happy and not lose ANY of the Feel of driving a 1982 Porsche 911 sc. I hope this fully explaines it.

Read my Note to Tony! This is not only about me, but the ease of use for my wife.
I am 68 in October and love driving the 911sc and there may come a day where Manual Steering will be too difficult for me to drive this car. (I hope never) A Porsche 911 has a certain feel like no other car. This is the only system I have seent that will allow me to totally keep this feel but be able to park and not feel like I just had a Work Out! If you look at the last 3 Pics of my first post, you will see the Shaft that connects the Steering Wheel to the Steering Box. That shaft is Solid and goes straight through the motor. In other word, you are Still Directly Connected from the Steering Wheel to the Road WHeels as you were before. One other thing, For the 911's that do not have AC, NO Modifications are needed to anything to install this system because the entire system fits and sits in the Smugglers Box!

Interesting.
Not something I would do to my car, but I had no idea that this option even existed!! Look forward to hearing feedback on the results.

WIth Zero Caster, the friction of turning 205 Super Grippy tires back and forth 20 times to get out of a space will still wear you out! Of course if I was 20 to 40 years old, that woul never be a consideration. In 2 years, I will be 70 and my wife 60 and we plan to enjy the Hell0 out of that car. ALso remember that my wife is no Sissy, she set a Land SPeed Record at Maxton in the her Mini Cooper S at Maxton and wrecked her 1976 going through her favorite set of turns at over 130 when a Saturn driver cut her off twice. SO we do take this seriously which is the reason we chose this system.

it is in a 1982 sc. I totally agree with your statement above except I would say that "I would not change one thing (about the Feel of) the steering on my 1982" which this will allow!

AMEN!! Either way, I will be telling exactly what it felt like.
If I feel ANY difference, I will be installing an On / Off switch because as I said earlier, there is simply NOTHING that feels like a 911. Specially in a turn and every Bump and ridge comes to the steering wheel and you "KNOW" Exactly what the car is doing and Exactly how close you are to the edge of Grip! For me, the above statement is the #1 reason to own one of these cars and if you Muck it up then you have a car like everyone else! I hope to answer this Sunday evening Weather permitting!

I was neutral until I read that part. I will file that little tidbit under 'reasons for me not to do it'. But otherwise I am interested in the outcome....
