Oil Cooler Lines leaking

Is this just a case of needing to tighten the connections, or is there more to this? New seals/soft lines?

I had to replace my cam tower oil lines because they were leaking at the hose to metal crimp connection . . tightening the attachment is generally not the problem but try making the connection snug first.

It doesn't look like it's leaking from the fittings, so tightening wouldn't do any good - at least on the cooler side. Can you snap a pic of the oil line side? I would replace with new flex lines.

Soak overnight with penetrating oil on all 4 nuts. Heat carefully with a map torch (maybe slide a piece of thin aluminum behind so you don't catch your undercoat on fire.)

Get two giant wrenches. You can buy closed end cheap Chinese metric wrenches and then cut a section out of the closed end to make a C shaped wrench. At least for one of the nuts.

Loosen the hold downs along the rocker and inside the inner fender so you can move the oil lines away from the body a little bit.

When putting on the new hoses, hand thread them on all the way. If you can't do this, you have it oriented wrong or cross threaded. Don't over tighten. Some people use a thread sealant here.

It really looks like the rubber has gotten hard, and it is seeping from the crimps. Best bet is replace them. And as mentioned above, be 100% sure they are hand threaded on with no cross threading. The threads are very fine, and easy to get wrong. Hand thread them on the cooler first, and then too the steel lines.

And the new hoses do need to be pretty dang tight to not leak. I wrapped a paper towel around each one with multiple zip ties too hold them in place. Then check the towels. If they are dry, you are a winner. If there is a continued leak, you will know which connection is leaking by looking at the paper towel.

ccaliana-

Replace the Hose, actually Both Hoses while you are at it.

They are OVERDUE for replacement, likely 40 years old or more.

They are not expensive from our Host.

In addition, it looks like you will be needing a few more Hoses soon by your photo of their condition.

You have a valuable 911, don't neglect it.

Thanks Len.

I have been going through things since I got the car 6 months ago. Did fuel lines when the engine was out for trans rebuild. Will probably do some of the oil lines at next oil change... These here maybe sooner ...
