Key stuck in ignition - ON position

Started up the car today, only to find that I can't turn the key in the ignition anymore. To recap: key went in, rotated past ON to START (pushing against normal spring pressure), and then back to ON with the car now running. This is where the key is stuck - I can't turn or remove it from the cylinder.

Any tips to resolve it myself? I've tried wiggling and turning the steering wheel to unlock, but no luck. If I need to, should I call a locksmith or a Porsche mechanic?

Car is currently off (stalled it to shut the engine off) and disconnected the battery.

You’ll need to remove the ignition switch from the dash, sounds like the tab that interfaces with the switch broke off.

Well, after letting the car sit for the past week I decided to give the key one last bout before taking it all apart this weekend. Sure enough, after a few minutes of wiggling, the key (sluggishly) turned back to the OFF position and I was able to remove it. Felt like twisting it in a jar of thick honey. I put the other key I have in the ignition and things turned freely.

Guessing I'll have to clean it out soon, but glad to be driving again... for now

This will come back to bite you again - and never at a convenient time.
Now you have the chance you should take the barrel out and to a locksmith (Porsche dealer would do same - they aren't locksmiths). They should be able to disassemble the barrel and sort it.
Decades of wear and tear in a finely spec'd piece of gear.
Prob worth cutting a couple of new keys at same time. Off the one that is working.

Thanks for the advice. I've been wanting one of those 917-style keys for a while anyways, now must be the time

That key will be matched to your doors? Right?

I recently took out the lock cylinder of my nephews car and brought it to a recommended locksmith. He charged 65 dollars to rebuild it and threw in a spare key. Took him one day.
