Radio delete face plate for a 73

In my continued attempt to remove non-essential parts to my 911, I have removed the radio. So my question is this: I know someone (our host even?) makes a plate to cover up the radio but I can't seem to find one. My car is a 1973 model. Does anyone have a recommendation or a source? Thanks in advance.

Oh Haha, thanks for the link. No wonder I couldn't find it in the Pelican site as it states it is for 74-89. anyone know if the faceplate fits a 73? If not I will look into a custom aluminum piece to hold my lap timer. I do like the idea to hold an iphone for the trips to the track.

I didn't find any for the 69-73 cars, either. I don't know enough about those years to know if the later face plate would work.

Someone here WILL know, though.

If you can, change your post title to include the car year. I think if you slect "edit" and then "advanced" it will allow the change.

Hi,

The original radio delete plate for a 69-73 is very hard to find, almost impossible. You might try Edmond Harris in the UK. Simple solution is to cut a piece of thin metal (around 0.75 mm) exactly to size and glue correct vinyl on it. Slide it in from the glove box side. There is someone on eBay (search for Porsche Radio Delete plate) that make reproduction plates.

Regards, Cees

One of the problems with a '73 is that the matching vinyl for the dash insert is NLA.
I got something similar from Tony at Autobahn, but when you put the two side by side, there is a visible difference. To get a consistent match you'll need to replace all of the insert vinyl.

I replaced all of mine, but I also don't have heat, so that control panel was already gone, along with the radio. Working with the heater controls. ignition and light switches is a pain. They've got to come out before you can remove and re-cover the inserts.

A decent looking "delete" plate or re-using the space for something else would eliminate the vinyl matching issues.

I ordered one from the dealer a few years back. It took a while to get. Better option is to make your own.

Who said anything about weight savings? I think the term was non-essential parts! In any case, thanks for all the suggestions.

I bought a rain delete panel on ebay for my 73. Does anyone have a pic of the delete panel out so I can see how I should put the vinyl on?

Contact cement works great for attaching vinyl.
