Variations in the 3.0L SC Cars' Weight (Coupe & Targa)
1978 911 SC Coupe = 2557#
https://www.excellence-mag.com/resources/specs/44 1978 911 SC Targa = 2667# (+110 from '78 Coupe) https://www.excellence-mag.com/resources/specs/45 1980 911 SC Coupe = 2756# (+199# from '78 Coupe) https://www.excellence-mag.com/resources/specs/48 1980 911 SC Targa = 2855# (+178# from '78Targa, +99# from '80 Coupe) https://www.excellence-mag.com/resources/specs/49 I've been trying to isolate weight differences between the 78/79 3.0 SC and the 80-83 3.0 SC and I know theres been a ~100# weight "penalty" going from the Coupe to the Targa. However, I am trying to understand where the nearly 200# gain comes from on the 78/79 cars to the 80-83. It cant be all the extra material left from the big port to the small port heads ![]() Can anyone shed some light on where this difference comes from?

he official factory #s DIN std
911SC ROW 78-83 1160kg 911SC USA 78-79 1160kg 911SC USA 80-83 1250kg Din weight is 90% full gas tank, all fluids, no optional equipment The problem is that what was an option in one market could be standard in another I suspect that the difference in Us between 79 & 80 US was A/C and possibly some smog equipment, maybe power seats

Lets assume A/C was optional on the 78/79 and standard in 80-83, that alone cannot be the 90kg (198 lbs) difference. Could there be more insulation, or safety equipment? IIRC from what I've seen through searching, the A/C was good for ~50#
