Installing new Dansk fuel level sender - any tricks?
Going on my 86' coupe I have been having problems with my fuel levels after a tank/sender swap - tank and sender were in storage for a few years so time for a new sender it appears. Tank is in excellent shape, drained and inspected.
New sender came with a new gasket. I am including a thread link with some talk about resistance and where a sender should be: 67/69 and 2.6/3.5 per the video and chat. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/845177-gas-gauge-doesnt-go-below-1-2-fuel-sender-does-not-appear-stuck-2.html Gauge has always been spot on just wondering if there is anything else to take note of or is this really just plug and play? Simple topic, but now really feel bad for those that have fuel gauge/sender issues after going through it myself...can be a bit nerve racking on long drives -even with using the trip odometer as my go to. It sounds like the new sender gasket might not be sealing properly or could be misaligned, which is causing fuel level issues. Since the tank and sender were in storage for a while, it’s also possible that some corrosion or debris got into the sender or wiring during that time.

I bought a URO from our host, went south before the car was on the road. Past the warranty period. When I spoke to the rep on the phone, he said that he has had one personally fail a few hours of installation. He said they are junk. I put mY OEM unit in and it reads 1/2 when full. I cringe at buying a new OEM.

Also a good time to pull the plug on the bottom of the tank to drain debris and clean/replace the screen (found a couple of tree leaves in there). You can see the swirl pot when the fuel level sender hole.

Hi guys, URO Parts Fuel Tank Sending Unit 901 741 801 00 currently has all 5-star reviews on Azn and Pelican (except for one review that sounds like the buyer didn't remove the shipping lock pin prior to installation). We did get some feedback about the float possibly being a bit tight about a year ago, which has been resolved on the production line.

I’m having what seems to be a similar issue with a sender I got maybe a couple of years ago. It sat in the box for a long time before being installed.
It shows the proper level sporadically, but is most often stuck at 1/4 tank and the reserve light on. Is there any way to know if it was part of the suspect production run? |
I usually try and put an end to the threads I start and I am about a month out (March/2025) from returning to TX where the car is in storage and will be installing the sender then.
I think my initial issue may have been when I went to swap fuel tanks, I pulled the two senders and left them out for days/week and maybe somehow this caused minor corrosion on the fragile wiring affecting the float. This is just my guess... Hopefully the new sender is the fix and if not I will keep trying as I have a few cross country drives and 'knock wood' have always had dead accurate fuel gauges... I will post after I install. Thanks for the input, know this is now the most technical issue, but seems like quite a few of us have problems with accurate fuel readings. Thanks again everyone... I noticed, when I took my original one out after some 38 years, that the float edges are fairly close to the tube inner walls. If the tube has any misalignment then the float would stick...

I removed the sender that was in my tanks and took it apart.
The float seems to be hanging up on the center rod. Even outside the tube I had to shake it to make it move up or down. I ordered the URO replacement based on UROParts stand up reply to PorscheDude996. Hopefully the URO works better than the unit it’s replacing. |

My URO sender (73 911) that I installed about 6 months ago is working like a champ.
The level is correct now from full to empty/reserve tank. Way better than my "timed out" original unit. For sure install a new gasket when replacing the sender. |

I installed the Dansk sender from Pelican about 2 years ago and it's working fine.

I have a '72 911 with original tank and sender. It was getting a little flakey and after inspection decided to replace; bought a Dansk, part number 901 741 801 00.
However it doesn't seem to fit .. the original sender (I believe the original from '72) has an angled mounting flange, the Dansk doesn't. No amount of tweaking or twisting will see it sit flat against the tank .. the bottom of the original tank appears to have a protrusion in the base which stops the sender flange sitting flat. Others seem to have had no problems ..I'm flummoxed .. anyone have ideas? I can't be the first ... |
