Rubber trim detailing

What’s everyone using to keep the rubber trim around windows, bumpers and tail rubber nice and black.
The Carnauba that I used does not leave white residue but still the rubber is starting to turn grey.

Note that not all “trim restore” is suitable for all kinds of trim. Your window seals are soft rubber and a lot of the trim restore products can dry them out.

With that in mind: I use Cerakote trim wipes. Especially good on the plastic “smile” on a g-body, the bumperettes, lower lip and (carefully) the bellows. A lot of folks comment on how good the easily-faded smile looks on my car. Super easy to apply + re-apply if you miss a spot.

I have used Mother’s in the past but it’s more like silicone that washes off.
I have read about some more permanent solutions but I worry if it gets on my anodizing or paint it could stain.

Cerakote trim wipes

I found Cerakote Trim Coat Kit , but not wipes. The Coat Kit is not for rubber trim.
I would like to clean / restore rubber.

Aerospace 303 on all black rubbers. All vinyl. All plastics.
Gummi Pflege on door seals.

FWIW, My '85 won 2nd in class at Porsche Parade concourse last year. After driving it 1200 miles....

I used Chemical Guys VRP which is similar to 303. Easy to apply and I never wiped it off the rubber.
It’s also paint friendly if needed
Merry Christmas

Biggest issue with older cars is cleaning the trim before adding any protection product to the surface. An APC or other type of cleanser should remove the aged and bonded gunk. After that, you have 2 options: a water based dressing (short term durability) or a ceramic coating (lasts years not a few washes).

Good suggestions in this post (gummipflege on door seals) but others are outdated.

Carbon Collective Nuovo and Platinum Trim Ceramic are STRONG options

What timing, I used 303, back to black, ceramics, wd40, all the black dye stuff. Just found this, I wanted something to last longer than 10 washes, doesn’t attract dirt or dust, not sticky. So far this is the best I’ve found. Works great on all the black plastic and rubber and the window trim stuff.

I had the same issue with my old Anglia’s rubber trim starting to fade, especially after a hot summer. I tried a few things, but what worked best was a rubber protectant with hnbr properties—it seems to hold up better against UV and weathering. A buddy of mine swears by a simple mix of 303 Aerospace Protectant, and I’ve had good luck with Gummi Pflege for the window seals.

One time, I used an oil-based dressing, and it looked great for a week… until it rained, and streaks ran down my paint. Lesson learned! Now I just clean the rubber first with mild soap and apply something UV-resistant.

Chemical Guys VRP came off the rubber window trim washing the car with mild car shampoo. The tail and bumper pillows and even the rest of rubber looked good.
I’m looking into something more durable.
