Porsche Crest New GT3 RS - Retro style

Not sure if I really like this? What do you think?

Only available in white with a choice between red or blue "styling". Carbon fibre front lid and rear spoiler. Six point harness, fire extinguisher and a roll cage should be standard.

It's nice in white, but I think I could live without the "styling". Still I'm curious how the styling would look in black? Someone here with good photoshop skills ?

Without the side script it would be v.cool. I even like the red wheels.

Porsche AG must LOVE that in the press photos used by Autoweek (both online and in print) the red turned out hot pink!

I love it . I'm replacing the red GT3 on my desktop with it. I think it is worthy of the RS. Maybe I can afford one in 15 or 20 years, but I doubt it.

I wonder how it is coming to the US? I read somewhere that DOT will not allow a roll cage from the factory??? (I guess it might interfere with the air bags :-))

Maybe its coming as a race car only, like the lotus.

I like it...way better than the regular 996 turdy look, IMHO!

"Current production is slated for the final 3 months of 2003, with 300 units being made and an undisclosed amount earmarked for the States."

"Porsche plans to finish all cars in white, with decals and wheels in red or blue. Prices will fall somewhere north of the GTs's $99,900 tag."

It will be less than 3000 lbs, a lightweight by modern car standards.

I like it a lot, even with the stripes.

If I had one, though, I'd store the rear wing in the attic and replace it with something reminscent of the ducktail. The rear wing is probably a novelty in most parts of the country, but not where I live. The UCI (Univ. of Cal., Irvine) parking lot that I drive by every day has wings like that by the bucketload.

Ya know I was thinking the same thing about the wing. I was at the dealer the other day and noticed that these wings are being fitted to alot of 996s and they look FG. I would like to take a FG copy and cut the big "T" off and fill it. Then it would be almost like a little duck tail!! I dont think the down force imbalance would hurt me because I cant imagine I would see north of 80 MPH very often :-))

.
I stand corrected. I am still skeptical though. I mean, why get the proper GT3 seats DOT approved, as well as the rear window, and roll cage for a 300 car run when they didn't even get the proper seats DOT approved for the original 1000 (about) car GT3 run, or previously for the GT2? Are we going to get a watered down RS??

EDIT:

I checked AutoWeek.com and I quote:

"Current production is slated for the final three months of 2003, with 300 units being made, but the vehicle will not be available for the States . Porsche plans to finish all cars in white, with decals and wheels in either red or blue. Prices will fall somewhere north of the GT3’s $99,900 tag. "

BTW: I love duck tails, but this car is a modern one meant to kick butt, just like the old ones did in their day, it needs proper aerodynamics to do it on a race track, and that tail is very functional.

Good looking car, styling and all, but with white, i think the blue would look better. Now to have guards red with black graphics would be hella nice.

Interesting. AutoWeek online disagrees with the AutoWeek hard copy magazine!

(I checked the article again, and I typed it correctly).

Sounds like there will be a "correction" piece in next week's mag.

Don't like it one bit. The wheels look too rice!

Give me one for free and I might reconsider.

Thanks for the modified picture. Only I was thinking how it might look - still in white - with black script.

BTW how on earth can this car not be legal in the USA? I just don't get it? If it lives up to the pollution rules and crash standards then why not? It's perfectly streetable.

Because of a roll cage? Come on that only makes it safer.
