Mikkel, in America just because it is safer doesn't mean we get it.

Thanks. Exactly what I had in mind. Looks kind of race car like. Better than red in my opinion. Black wheels on a white car has a certain "effect"

Do you prefer the Turbo front on 996s? The big black nostrils???

Wow I'm the opposite. No black grill for me please A GT2, or GT3 for that matter, has a much nicer front end than a Turbo in my opinion. I have gotten used to the Cayenne by now, but I still don't like how the whole front end is one big air intake.

I was thinking the same thing, "why not legal?" Then someone put it to me this way. Lets take a look at the seats that were supposed to be on the GT3 and GT2 and didn't make it to the states. They are FIA approved, but that doesn't matter we need to please DOT. It's simply that if Porsche wants to import these cars, they need to retest with these seats and the production numbers don't warrant the hassle. Also the seat belts take a different route through these seats which is again, not dangerous, but must be tested. The "must be retested, it's not worth it problem" seems to be the most common reason. However, I gather from what I've heard, that things like the plastic rear window and rollcage are not legal, no matter what. It's interesting since you see jeeps running around all the time with bars right next the occupants heads.

BTW, I like the GT3 and GT2 front ends better as well. I think the turbo front it is okay, and it has a great muscular look to it. However, to me, it also makes the car look fat, this may be because it actually does this, or simply because I think of the turbo as fat compared to the GT2/GT3 and have grown to associate that weakness with the look of the car.

Yeah and Jeeps run around w/o the doors as well! Come on a 5pt harness keeps you inside the car while you could fly out in a jeep w/o doors.

Yup...that's the one. The nostrils are part of it, but all the little tweaks they do to the turbo make it look much better to my eyes than a regular 996.

I suppose there are those that feel that way about *all* turbo years, but I think the straight 996 coupe looks like a jelly bean, whereas the 996 turbo looks more like a 911. The GT3 is somewhere inbetween to my eyes...I'd have to see it in person though.

GT3 has the nicest front end by far. Actually it has the best body work too, i like the rockers.

I feel exactly the opposite. I think the rockers and front end have too many angles/edges, and looks like they've been cribbing from the new BMWs.

But, that's why they make different cars for different people.

I like the GT3 the best also (but, then again, I've got a lot of BMW in my blood - and one in my garage).

... and considering the fact that it will weigh almost 1400KG I'm not sure if it deserves the legendary "RS" name.

I can't possibly imagine the GT3 RS in a 4WD version. They aim for a weight of 1225Kg or so (can't remember). That's what a Carrera 3,2 weighs remember!

OK, I have my copy of Auto Express in front of me here. Here's the Official press release :

The GT3-RS will weigh 1360KG with a full tank of fuel (50kg less than the standard GT3)

Performance will be around 190mph top speed. 0-62mph in 4.4 and 0-124mph in 14 seconds. It has a 3.6 litre flat six putting out 381bhp (61bhp more than standard Carrera) and revs to a dizzy 8,200rpm. A new intake has been added under the rear wing to increase air flow to the engine at high speeds.

It seems I was wrong about it having four wheel drive. It will have a close ratio six speed gearbox feeding power to the rear wheels through a light-weight flywheel.

Although fully road legal (in the UK) the car will be produced in accordance with international GT rules for motorsport and will therefore come with a full roll cage. The main competition will be the Ferrari Challenge Stradale, though at around £85,000 (in the UK) the GT3-RS will undercut the Stradale (£133,000) by a long way.

Although down on power by 81bhp, the GT3-RS is set to smash the GT2 lap time around the Nurburgring, due to improved handling and light weight.

Time for a bit of Ferrari bashing don't you agree ....
