Shifter Boot Removal G50
Hi is there a way to remove the leather boot without disassembly or removal of the center console? I’m having a metal-rubbing which sounds like it’s coming from the top of the shifter assembly. Vibration sometimes and rattling sounds
Any ideas what could be before I take apart?

I have a 915, metal noises were from all 3 shift rod bushings broken among other old brittle nylon bushes causing vibrations and chattering in the tunnel. I’m not familiar if G50 has same mechanics.
Good article here…check the comments someone posted a video replacing the bushing. https://www.hagerty.com/media/maintenance-and-tech/make-your-porsche-shifter-feel-like-new-in-one-weekend/ |

I spent hours trying to do it without removing the console. Those were wasted hours because in the end I had to remove the console. Plus all that fiddling around crimped the thermostat capillary tube. More work and more money!
Nice interior color!

Hi nealf2002
You can remove the knob (pry up the tab to expose the allen key to remove the knob). Then you can work the ring that holds the bottom of the boot around to separate it from the base. Then you can "inside out" the leather and take the rubber retainer of the leather portion and the "felt" liner attached with it. Mine was pretty easy to move around, but maybe 2 trim tools to pop the ring that holds the leather in will helo you work it around the edge. Failing that, there are 4 screws (2 top, 2 bottom) that hold the center console in and you can move it around and over the stick if needed.
