77 alt install problem
Hey guys
I'm in the middle of installing a rebuilt bosche alt in a customers car, 77 911s targa sportmatic. Took the old one out, looked original. Had to really work to get the new one to fit in the fan housing. Now that its in, looks like it sets too far in and the fan belt won't line up now. Am I missing something, or is this the wrong alt? Bosche AL9341x, customer supplied the part.

Over the years, Porsche used several alternators. My guess would be that your customer got the wrong one...but I'm not up on which years used which alternators, so this is only a guess.

Looks like it is the wrong one. I've got a fan from a 70 and the alt mount is different. Guess I'll have him send it back.
grrrr, ready to be done with this car.

Is there a local alternator rebuild shop near you? Might speed things up, plus you'll know that the one you removed will fit?
