New windshield does not fit
 

Has anyone replaced a front windshield and have this issue.
Huge gap on drivers side and the water poors in.
The shop moved the windshield over and got it to fit better but my position is the windshield is defective as in it’s not wide enough at the top.
If you have replaced it what brand did you use

Odds are your glass is not defective, what brand is it?

Fitting the glass and getting the seal to cover the gap is dependent on the chrome or in your case, black retaining aluminum strip being tapped out towards the gap until it fits tightly. Watch Mike’s Restorations channel on YouTube about fitting front glass as he walks through the process in great detail. If your shop can’t do this or doesn’t know how, perhaps it’s time for a new shop…?

I would order the URO seal if your glass shop can't get it right . . larger seal to cover the gaps better. I struggled with the Porsche and then another aftermarket seal to no avail .. the URO seal made it easy.

Does "anyone" have this issue? Ha! Take a look at any C&C / casual gathering and I bet more than 50% of the cars have a gap in one, or both, of the top corners. As such, I'd say that, anecdotally (or, at least, facetiously) "everyone" has a gap (perhaps not as large, or as leaky as yours tho).

Given that your glass & seal are already installed, your next step is to adjust the trim / seal via the aforementioned tap method (i.e. drive the trim / seal outwards with a wooden block and a mallet). Failing that, the latest forum thinking is the current version of the Üro seal is the way to go...

Sadly, OE and OEM parts just ain't what they used to be. :(

New URO seal and you will be the happiest you have ever been with windshield fitment!

They moved the glass and it was better but still not to satisfaction.

Is the uro seal bigger

yes bigger and better fitting . . get it.

I use a wooden shim with the end shaped to match the windshield corner radius to form the trims shape and move it into the corners........

In my experience the window is too low in the opening, It may not even be seated on the lip right. Usually there's a line in the paint, a witness mark from the last seal. Ensure the BOTTOM of the window is on that witness line. The aluminum trim can definitely cause it to pull in as well. Take it back out and really spend some time carefully adjusting the trim so that it follows the contour on the window.

Seriously doubt the glass is different. I don't know about the seal difference, but I've installed using Porsche seals on the last two cars and it just takes a lot of effort to get it right on all sides.

If it's not seated on the bottom metal lip, it will slide forward slightly and have gaps in the top corners. It can be seated on the outer edges mostly, but not in the middle and the whole glass will sag as a result.

If you want to expend a lot of effort to get another seal brand to work . . fine . . but the URO is soooo easy compared to the others and it looks nice too.

Hi T77911S, URO Parts Windshield Seal 911 541 225 03 has a wider lip for better coverage, especially in the corners.

It took me 3 windshields to get it right. There are no new German glass for replacement for old cars.
There is some used glass from take outs but they are pricy, and just because they are not cracked??? No more Pinkerton. So the new glass is Chineese, and it did not fit, got 2 people to hold it in place wile I taped it even all around the edge without the seal. No good it was too big and would never go in, so I had to trim it down. OMFG.. I used a diamond disk on a grinder, and the broken original window to practice on , no problem, easy peasy, it was German. Then the new one from China..BOOM, exploded, wife was pissed. Got another Chinese one and it fit better but only Porsche seal were around, I got it in but what a b*tch, had to do it over and over again. By the time I was done I could do an install in 10 minutes by myself but crap what a learning curve. And then the URO seals came in, F*CK ME!

He just had the car painted, so there’s no goodness marks.

I had the windshield replaced on my 930 at Safelite, and they did a ****ty job. In fact, it seems like every time my insurance has me use them, they do a ****ty job.

I had an auto glass install a pinkington last year, and they spent a lot of time working to get the gaps removed. Hauled me in the back and said that what your picture shows was as good as they could do. Having watched videos and read all of the threads - as others have offered above, I asked if they had a wooden dowel and mallet. The watched with mouths open as I tapped the corner trim to better fit the curve and the seal and glass settled nicely into the corners with no gaps. It needed some persuasion. I dread going through this again when I have some paint work done...

I used the URO seal 5 years ago and it's still water tight and fits nicely.

Where did you get your windshield? Someone in another thread had said Kool Katz was good but it was from a while back.

My windshield has a couple rock chips and I have been wanting to replace it. Got a new Uro seal on order already.

Check your local glass supplier. In KY I got my windshield glass for 190 bucks. Local pickup as well, no shipping to worry about
