Report on New Uro Windshield Seal

Just a quick post to report on the newly-redesigned Uro windshield seal. My glass guys (one with 40 yrs of auto glass experience, the other has 28) do a lot of work for Porsche restoration shops in S. Florida. They first tried the factory seal and, after fitting it on the glass but before even putting the glass on the car, could see that it wasn't going to work and rejected it. I gave them the Uro seal and within half an hour they had the glass in. They really liked the way it fit in the corners with the wider lip. Needless to say, I'll be returning the factory seal. Here are some photos of the corners:

Any idea how to tell the old and new style apart when ordering it? Different part number? Wo'pac lists a URO-009765. Is that it?

Anyone know if they're doing the various targa seals?

How is this seal different from the previous URO windshield seal? I installed the last version on my 1973 coupe, and after relaxing in to final position, it fits very well and has held its shape for the past 3 years.

Maybe a Uro rep will chime in, but here's a thread that talks about some of the differences:

FYI - just found this post by Uro from 11/8/22:

Hi guys, we're still working on setting up a new production line for seal 911 541 225 03 / 91154122503, so it'll be quite a while before we have more available. Remember, our latest version of this seal (softer rubber with the wide lip) has batch code 7874 or higher in the bottom right corner of the URO label. There's a chance batch 7389 might have been the new version, but we can't confirm.

*** FYI ***
If you buy an old-version "NOS" URO seal at a swap meet or in the for-sale section, be aware that it's going to be harder rubber (even more so the older it gets) and have the same lip width as OEM, which means it won't be easy to install and you'll probably have gaps at the corners. As an example, batch 5012 is more than seven years old, and batch 6306 is more than five years old (and well outside of our two-year warranty). Be sure to verify that the code in the bottom right corner of the label is 7874 (or higher) if you want to minimize installation challenges.

I really like new URO front window seal.

If you have a car with a paint line at the window gasket the URO seal wll cover it right up.

I was advised to use the factory seal. Which I did. Was a major struggle but it is in. I feel strange saying this but I wish I had used the Uro product.

Do they make a rear window seal?

I'm going to replace all four window seals, my new to me 87 roller definitely has a leak in the rear and I will need to take the front out to repair the dash... and I need to replace the headliner so all four will be coming out.

That 's fantastic Isby, thanks for the report! Good news everyone - Windshield Seal 911 541 225 03 is back in stock! Only about (200) units from this production run, so don't delay if you've been patiently waiting to order one. Doesn't look like Pelican is currently showing them available; we'll send them a message.

Our current version of this seal (softer rubber with the wide lip) has batch code 7874 or higher in the bottom right corner of the URO label. URO-009765 is our internal part number for 911 541 225 03, so you can search for it using either number.

That's a great tip Eastbay, thanks for sharing.

We offer Rear Window Seal 911 545 225 00 for coupes, and Rear Window Seal 911 545 051 41 for targa models. About two years ago the rubber was softened a bit for both seals, and around that same time the coupe version was updated with molded corners (the prior version was a continuous loop of rubber extrusion). Both are similar to OEM, and do not have a wider exterior lip like our redesigned Windshield Seal 911 541 225 03.

Hi Ivan, sorry but Windshield Seal 964 541 225 00 (911 541 225 03 without trim groove) isn't going to happen, unfortunately. Thanks for checking.

URO-009765 is our internal part number for 911 541 225 03, so you should be good to go.

Can you link Pelican's link or whoever has the new one for sale? Is there a direct URO buy link?

We just sent an email to Pelican to get this seal reactivated in their system, now that it's back in stock. Normally it takes them about a day to make updates to their online catalog, thanks for your patience! (Sorry, we only sell through retailers.)

Amazing, I'll check back on the forum to see if they pop back up in the next day or two and buy both the front and rear so I have them on hand when I take on that project.

Thank you
